Come on Simba66, is there any particular reason that Simba should act this way, or are we gonna start letting everyone who feels anger toward someone else pass along the resentment from one dead foe, to another living one? This is not meant to offend you, but this really bothers me. Simba comes off as a great guy and a good King, but this really isn't the Simba we see in the original TLK
You're right. He's not. He's more protective of Kiara and he does have good reason. As I've said many times, Zira kinda sealed Simba's opinion of Kovu from the start. Being Scars heir, even as a cub, Simba has a good reason to not like Kovu.

Chronological huh? Okie dokie artichokie:
1. Scar tricks Simba into going to an elephant graveyard in an attempt to kill him.
2. Decides to just kill Simba and Mufasa in one go.
3. Tells Simba to leave the Pride Lands forever.
4. Abuses the Pride Landers and decimates their land for god knows how long.
5. When Simba returns, he tries to turn Simba's own pride against him.
6. Tries to blame the whole thing on the hyenas to save his own butt.
7. Finally attempts to kill Simba and almost succeeds.

Wrap all this together in a newly born cub who was Scar's heir, and you can understand why Simba does what he does. This is also in no way meant to offend you. He was a bit too hasty with his decisions, I'll admit that much. But the Simba we see in SP is different because it changed in context to Kovu's appearance.
Nice retort my friend and adversary, I must say that this is in fact a good rational. Kovu is placed in a rather horrid position. Simba is told that Kovu is Scar's heir and thus passes his unresolved hatred of Scar on to him; personally, I can not say that this is the right thing to do. Simba has a right to ba angry at Zira and those who help her, but Kovu isn't even Scar's son; he just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Simba has an issue that many go through life not even noticing. He can't let go of what has happened in the past. In this case, "Hakuna Matata" is in fact a good philosophy, just let go. This is extrememly difficult and I won't blame Simba for this problem. He has had a rough time and deserved retribution, but don't point it at Kovu.... Again, this is not intended to offend anyone, just a personal opinion....

Indeed TPAM, that's exactly what I meant by Simba was a bit too hasty. His first impression of Kovu was fueled by Zira's devilish and tricky wording. I don't think that Simba had an unresolved hatred of Scar. He did get his revenge (even though we know that he didn't want to kill Scar at first.)at the end of the Lion King. What I think fueled this real response from Simba is he was simply thinking this:
"Another Scar? I'm not gonna let this happen again."
While this is of course untrue, and Kovu is nothing like Scar, that's not the way that Simba sees it. It could be looked at both the way you said, or the way I just said, but regardless, Simba is a bit too hasty in his first impression of Kovu, but it is necessary. If he didn't do what he did, we wouldn't have the Lion King II. XD

No offense to anyone who was offended.

Rogue, you are quite the adversary as well.

Unfortunately, it seems Simba is, quite unintentionally, calling Kiara a bad judge of character in this. Kiara is caught playing with Kovu and the first move Simba makes upon arrival is to intimidate Kiara's new friend. Just a nice roar to the face and a threatening glance, nice reception Simba. Later, when Zira plays her trump card and completely alienates Kovu, Simba shows an even higher level of anger toward him. At this point, we see the place where he starts to oppose the "new Scar", before that, Simba is just overprotective to the extreme. Ever notice that Kiara has no friends whatsoever? Just a pair of ignorant babysitters. If this is how Simba acts with all Kiara's potential friends, it's no surprise she tries to escape him as much as possible.... As always, this is not intended to offend anyone.

S66, thank you for your declaration of respect toward my place of opposition,

Debating and defending Simba's awesomeness is one of my favorite hobbies. But I'm beginning to wonder; Is it healthy to have an unfathomable obsession with Simba?
Better question; Why do I care?
Simba is awesome. nuff sed. XD
