I have no idea, I'm just gonna stick with my stalwart defense of the Ash theory....

I believe that`s ash, not snow. It must be from the fire earlier in the movie. Also, Kovu showed Kiara the same thing Simba showed him.. (the plant growing underneath the ash)

So yeah. I basicly just repeated what everyone else probably stated lol. *didnt read the entire thread*

Not quite sure if it's ash or sand, but either could be logical. Especially if Kiara had traveled farther outside of the vegetation of the Pride Lands into the desert. It could have been Disney's way of showing you how far Kiara went to find Kovu since Simba in the first movie traveled until morning to get to the desert.

Hmm, I like that idea. It's really cute. ^^ And it also explains why it took Kiara and Kovu so long to get back to where the fight was.

It is indeed clever, but I hardly find an explanation for how the undergrowth could have survived being buried in sand, it is much more abrasive than ash, and less nutritious for the plants, this seems to cast doubt on the theory that it is sand, though I do not discount this idea, I merely address it....

Hm, I have to concer with you. It just wouldn't make much sense if there was sand there, though the appearance looks somewhat similar to sand.

It does seem somewhat un-ashlike, but it seems highly unlikely that a sandstorm blew up and carried all that sand into the Pridelands and buried that much land, we probably would have seen that, we do, however, have a fire, and lots of ash....
