Internet Censorship.

Yes, the government is butting their noses into yet more places it does not belong. And it is not just our USA government. Australia and China, among others, are also doing it. For parents to restrict their child's access may indeed be on thing, but for the government to decide just what programs should be installed to block things worldwide is beyond extreme. That aside, it violates more than one part of the American Constitution - The freedom of speech. And the internet provides that more openly than any other form of communication, worldwide.

WTF? The internet should be free for everyone, it's not exactly a separate country that needs its own law code lol If people are so scared of stumbling onto harmful/hate sites then they shouldn't even be online >.> Yeah, I get censorship when it's for school and stuff, and as for children finding bad sites on the internet, well, I think that's more the parents' fault than the owners of the site imo. But seriously? Blocking out specific sites such as facebook because they might offend someone is like killing every single person on earth because they might say something mean to you. Yeh, weird analogy I know LOL. I'm a little sleep-deprived.

Exactly how are they legitimizing this? A move to censor the internet? This is a blatant violation of our rights; the people responsible for this need to take a hike. This makes me wonder why we elected people who could do this to us in the first place.

O.o WTH? Now this has gone too far. I mean, they should only block certain sites that can't be safe for children. But this? Too much.

If you read the links, first one aplies to libraries that are receieving government fund for internet / computers. Which to be fair: are not your computers so I wouldn't be too surprised, it's not as if most libraries charge to use them or anything (at least most here do not)
The second one: Well yes that does suck, but as it clearly says, you may opt out of it once the proposed effect takes place... So what's the real problem? If you don't want to have your 'netz censored, you simply contact them and say "no" and they get rid of it... Not a problem for most, and as for young children, well why not? Let's face it... There are some (to put it politely) disturbing things to be found on the net.

I don't understand how some of these things are being put on the vote. Prop 8 was a pretty blatant violation of our rights too, IMO, but yet that was still put on the vote for some reason. Personally I don't go on the internet, expecting not too be offended. Just like I don't expect not too go to school and not be offended. So why fix something that's not broken?

We fix things that aren't broken all the time, and censorship of any kind is frankly stupid. As long as the statements you are making don't breach the rights of others, so be it. You have the right to publically imbarrass yourself just so long as you don't go too far.
