Personally, and this may cause controversy, but, Simba is self centred. We see that as a cub, although that may be seen as head strong, for example, dragging Nala to the graveyard, when he knew it was unsafe. As an adolescent, running away and not facing his problems, like any normal person would. And then finally during the jungle as an adult. He shows compassion towards Nala as she is a potential mate. When he can't have her, he gets angry.
When he returns, that could be seen as self centred as he wants the power of a king, and the same in SP. He wants the powers over everyone, making sure he cements his own destiny.
