Heat scorched the dry savannah, golden colored grasses begging for even drops of rain. But the skies above were cloudless, providing no shade. A pending drought, it seemed. An audible sigh escaped the dusky lioness' muzzle as she lowered her head once more, setting off at a walk again. Small paws sifting through the brittle grass as the undersized lioness moved, a steady pace carrying her in hopes of water and shade. Ribs were beginning to show underneath her soft umber pelt, making it clear that the herds having moved to greener pastures was taking its toll on everyone. The Circle was beginning to become contorted, falling out of balance with the weather. But that was something no one could fix, unfortunately so.
Kina's nicked ear twitched as she came to a halt, head tilting slightly. Leafy green surroundings visible to her at the bottom of the hill. A forest, according to a wandering tiger she'd met once. While the orange and black male's name slipped her mind at the moment, she knew that she was at least guaranteed survival inside. Slender muscles rippled underneath her dark pelt as she moved into a lope, covering territory at a much faster pace now. A gentle breeze accompanying her speed, but also carrying fresh and unusual scents that accompanied the area. It was intriguing, and further justified her wandering. Despite barely being into adulthood, it was indeed sufficient to say that her fair share of travel had already been breached. But it remained ever interesting to her to see the new areas. It couldn't quite be called wanderlust, but it was often spurred ahead by assumptions and attacks of others for crossing their boarders.
The dusky lioness eventually slowed as she neared the boarders, relaxing back into a walk as cool shade overtook her lithe frame. Large leaves sliding over her muscular back with the first few steps, entering the blissfully cool glade. The sound of running water caused her ears to prick forward once more when she got further in, pausing. Good fortune seemed to smile upon her now. About to continue, one paw still raised in the air, when a rumbling growl interrupted her thoughts. The odd scents having covered familiarity, masking presences. Perhaps she was not suddenly fortunate.
She carefully set it down, ears moving in the direction of the growl. Cold blue eyes boring into her. A golden pelt suddenly lunged at the dusky lioness. Weight slammed into her. The breath was knocked out of Kina as they rolled along the forest floor, only to end up on the bottom. Pinned. Fangs were bared at her as she stared up at the aggressive mistress of the territory, claws digging into the dusky female's slender shoulders. At a painful disadvantage, small size working against her. Slowly inhaling from her position on the ground, head tucking against her throat in an instinctual reaction to remain alive. "Let me up. I've no intent against your lands," Kina murmured calmly, her own pale gaze meeting the other lioness' without qualms.
"Pft. The second in a fortnight to assume they would be believed? A difficult thing you ask, after the last."
"I cannot prove innocence, then?"
"It is unlikely," she hissed.
Kina immediately kicking her hind legs up as her opponent's paw raised. Jolting a sharp gasp from her as she flipped the golden lioness onto her back several pawsteps behind her, but both had already scrambled to their paws. Taking stance. One wary, one aggressive. Like one starved, and presented with a ripe selection of prey. And Kina was the prey.
