Personality: Snarky, sarcastic--likes to critique her younger cousins. She also likes to complain, even though (most of the time) she doesn't mean it.
Description: Dark gray-brown fur, with an outlander-shaped snout and black outlander nose. She has dark brown eye patches like Nuka, red eyes, light gray-brown underbelly and toes. Four dots under her right eye patch. She also has a light gray-brown head tuft that also fringes the sides of her face--both end in curls. Her head tuft has a dark brown stripe that reaches all the way to her tail. Her design is not mine--Endless Night on the TLKFAA made it for me.
Other: Harufu is one of the few neutral characters in my TLK III story. She's close with her brother, Viza, but not really with her mother. As a cub, she has a fierce hero-worship of her father, and even as a teen and adult will still defend against anyone who talks badly about him.
History: Harufu and her brother Viza are the posthumous cubs of Nuka and Dotty, born shortly after the alliance between Outlanders and Pridelanders. For a time, she and Viza are the only two cubs in the Pridelands, and play by themselves…one reason they grow so close. However, because they are the two first outlander-looking cubs born in the Pridelands (before Kiara and Kovu’s cubs and before Vitani’s), many of the pridelanders pride sisters are wary of both their appearance and heritage: Viza has bright green eyes…proof that Nuka was the son of Scar. While Harufu wasn’t particularly bothered by this, her brother WAS, and she spent much of their cubhood pestering him to stop being so depressed. Harufu DID, however, have a problem with people talking badly about her father, and her temper would flair as she rose to his defense. Having never known him, she got the impression that he was a loyal but misunderstood lion (Dotty never really told her cubs about Nuka trying to kill both Kiara and Simba.) As Harufu and Viza grew into teens, other cubs were born, and suddenly they weren’t lonely anymore. Instead, they were now acting as babysitters….something neither likes. Harufu, unfortunately, gained herself a fan: her younger cousin Faragha, who was fascinated by the older lion’s snarky demeanor and strong hunting skills. Though Harufu never let the cub know, she actually enjoyed having Faragha around: she felt important. In her own way, she took her cousin under her wing.
Until, however, the day Kuwasha ran away, and Kivuli was exiled. Harufu chose to remain a neutral party throughout the entire situation, but Faragha did not: She grew bitter, sarcastic…like Harufu once was but much more nasty. She didn’t want to lose her brother, but Kovu made it clear there was no choice. Harufu, too, would be losing a brother, but only because the time had come for him to start his own pride. Harufu was allowed to come if she chose, but she decided against it. Her brother needed to be his own lion, and she’d feel out of place. Secretly, she also didn’t want to deal with the newly-scarred Kivuli. Harufu knew how Viza felt towards Kuwasha (like an older brother) and she didn’t want to get mixed up in the inevitable nastiness that was to follow between the two lions. Instead, she stayed behind in the Pridelands with her mother, associating only with the Pridesisters who also chose to remain neutral…the few that there were. She remains an observer, silently wishing for things to go back to the way they were.
