"You think Simba will slow down when you pursue him!? Never! Toughen up, child!" She continued, not worrying whether her son was behind her; that was his problem.

Kovu had now broken into a run in order to try and keep up with Zira he manged to get to within a few meters of his mother but was quickly running out of breath. "Mother...where...are...we...going?"

Zira halted. "Look for yourself..." She'd brought Kovu to the hyena's old den, hoping the surrondings would encourage his attitude.

Kovu relised where he was very quickly having been bought here once befor by Zira, but he still did't know exactly why he was bought here. "Mother why have you bought me here?"

Zira slowly showed her teeth, her eyes blood red in the half-light. "I do think the setting is highly important to a lion's mindset, don't you agree my boy?" She slunk over to one of the geysers. "Come here, my child."

Kovu slowly walked over to where his mother uncertain of what was happening.

Zira sat steady, her gaze never shifting from the geyser below. "The first lesson for a young prince." The steam burst up in a torrent of anger. "Is to never be afraid!" She watched for her son's reaction....

Kovu instictivly jumped back from the steam. "sorry mother i did't mean..."

"Silence!" Zira pinned her son with one paw. "Silence, my child... This little 'mistake' will be corrected, but it will not go un-punished!" She lashed out and struck her son on the shoulder.

"ow!" Kovu yelled out in pain, he looked at his shoulder it was bleeding. He started to rub his shoulder to try and comfort the pain. "What mistake did I make mother?"
