Why exactly did Nala and Simba fall in love?
I always thought it was just Zazu yapping on his romantic visions leading it to be about getting married over-all. Especially as, in the Finnish dubbing, his literal words are "You've been promised to each others." in a questioning tone, as if asking Simba and Nala if that's what they're going to be - because he himself thinks they're so potential and cute and all.
That would be a good observation if not for this line: "It's a tradition going back generations."

It's not much of a "tradition" if it's never actually been used and Zazu just decided to say it because he thinks they make a cute couple.

Also, the movie was originally made in English, by an American animation company. So even if the translation is somewhat different in Finnish (or any other language really), it doesn't really change much as the original version pretty clearly states they were meant to be married (betrothed, intended, affianced, etc).

Again, I used to think it was about marrying in general. That is until I indeed listened to the english audio that said "generattions". I may have had heard it before but I just haven't watched this film too many times in english. Actually maybe only once or twice in all its years. (:

Lol ever heard of love at first sight? XD And besides, I think you're over analyzing this.. it's a Disney film, it's not gonna make sense. :confident:

I don't believe in love at first sight. Love is too deep and strong of a feeling to begin at first sight. Disney films do make sense to some extent. Especially this film had lot of sense in it, so that Simba/Nala thing kinda sticks out.

I probably am over analyzing; it happens rather frequently. Regardless, if there is no one to over analyze, the conversation gets boring a lot quicker. :P Without the over analyzers, the thread goes something like this:

"Why did Simba and Nala fall in love?"

"I think they fell in love because they were perfect for each other! <3"
"They were betrothed, so it makes sense."

"I think they fell in love because the writing staff told them to."

You know what? I've been thinking about this for a while too. Maybe it's been so long that they missed each other, and now they got together again when they're adults so they found themselves falling in love. I'm not sure if that's the exact reason, but from what I know so far is true. I'm not exactly sure on this one.

Sorry if I’m bumping up, but this is something I really care about. The reaction Simba and Nala get when Zazu tells them what being betrothed means, is very interesting. At first it seems plain and simple, they think it’s disgusting. But, there is more to it.

Firstly, it’s typically stereotype for kids to be anti-romantic. Secondly, when somebody shows how much they despise something, the exact opposite could actually be the case.

As for me, I love the romance between them, I’m very passionate about it. Once when I was still living at home, me and my parents watched a quiz show. Suddenly a video was shown with the "Can you feel" scene because the question had something to do with it, and immediately when I saw it, I was all: "Yuck, please switch channel, that is so pathetic", and so on. Why did I say that, when I actually love it? Because I was embarrassed about it.

So maybe the first thing that went through their heads when they heard they were going to be married, is to immediately show the other how disgusting they think it is. Because they are so embarrassed about maybe having a little crush on each other.

I could be dreaming, because I love to think that is the case. But it has a psychological explanation.

Often when there's a large gap from seeing someone, you will be pretty abrupt with them. Since they obviously already had feelings for eachother as cubs, it was just carried on, because they hadn't seen eachother in so long. And Simba also realized how beautful she was, when he saw her laying down in the grass, so that might of helped spark it, aswell.
