Morning Report

I just re-watched the VHS version for the first time in at least 7 years, since after the DVD came out, I've only watched that.
This scene was more similar to the new edtiion than I remembered, so I think I have to take back a few things I said in my first post to this topic. Such as deepening the characters, I see the original did it as well.

But I still like this new edition better. I love the original, but I love this one a little bit more.
It's funny that Zazu lets himself be humiliated because Mufasa wishes it so, but it's even funnier that the father and son plot the jumping lesson in secret, while Zazu sings his heart out and the song is so stupid. I also like better that instead of shortly chasing a cricket, Simba torments the mole a little longer + makes that pathetic jump and hits his head. It's so much cuter than the cricket version. And of course the tormenting Zazu more than just by jumping on him. This new edition is more colorful and entertaining, in my opinion. And I just still ignore the song (for one because it indeed gets stuck in your head, if you don't.)

I actually like this sequence. The song lyrics may not be the most memorable for the storyline (but it can easily get stuck in your head). However, it gives us a better look at father and son time between Mufasa and Simba, something that really adds to the bond you see between father and son in the movie. It may not be a lot of extra time, but it's enough.

I can't stand this song. I can't. I think it's cheesy and out of place, not to mention the fact that it completely ruined the pouncing lesson sequence, which has always been one of my favourite parts of the film.
ETA: To those of you who are saying you want to watch the movie without this song, you do know the original theatrical cut is on the Special Edition DVD as well? It's hard to find as it's well hidden..but if you go to the language menu it's right there, below the list of available languages.

It took me a while for me to figure out how to get it to the original settings, too... :teehee: I like the song and everything, but to me, nothing beats the original!

What's so great about the original morning report scene anyway? I mean besides that it doesn't have the song.

I just found it far more amusing and entertaining than the version with the song...feels more 'natural' I guess.

That, and I find I can hardly stand 'Morning Report' as a song...I just hate it.

I love the lyrics to sing song, they’re really brilliant.

But I prefer the original version of the movie, without this song.. There’s no need for it, it adds nothing to the movie or the story, like all other songs do. Besides, Simbas new singing voice sounds like a girl. :P
