[Open] Neon Tiger

[SnowyCheetah]

Inspired by (and named after) Neon Tiger by The Killers. Takes place during Scar's reign, before Nala leaves and finds Simba, so it will be a bit of a rewrite of the TLK story

One dark, dry, dreary, hungry, miserable night in the Pridelands during Scar's detestable reign, a droning noise was heard throughout the plains. It was distant, and steadily growing louder. Soon, the noise was directly above the plains and seemed to be coming from some type of metal contraption. Human-related, probably. It came, and left, seeming to pay no attention to the pride below. But soon after its passing, two large wooden crates came floating down on parachutes. Inside one was a tiger; the other, a cheetah. Both were incredibly sick, because they were bound by an unknown, otherworldly force to an ice cave in the south pole. They could safely roam within about fifty miles of it. However, after leaving it, they would become sicker and sicker until, if they reached the north pole, they would die in horrible pain. Weak, but otherwise OK, the tiger and cheetah laid in their crates quietly, listening to their surroundings. They'd been dropped too soon; the men in the plane meant to take them to the north pole, to kill them and prevent any chance of revival by the same otherworldly force that bound them to the ice cave in the south pole. They would no doubt return to retrieve their captives and finish the job. The two animals knew this, and hoped desperately that someone would save them before they were discovered missing on the plane, and retrieved.

The plot is that, after being rescued by the Pridelanders, the two newcomers are eventually lead by Rafiki one night to some outlying, desolate area of the Pridelands, and freed from their otherworldly bonds by the Great Kings of the Past. They then assist Simba, once he returns, in taking back his throne and Pride.

Another Day under scars rule had been and gone, And Sarabi was exhausted. Even thought it had been a while since the incident, Sarabi still grieved. She Grieved for the loss of her mate Mufasa, and, her son Simba. Yet she vowed she would not cry, not show a weakness to Scar. Scar and his pet Zira. That stupid lioness was not fit to be queen, sucking up to Scar for power, she sighed, she missed how her and Mufasa ruled. Fairly and Justly, keeping law and order, unlike Scar, destroying the pridelands, for power.

Sarabi walked back towards the den, trying to find her good friend Sarafina, and her daughter Nala. Since Mufasa's and Simba's death, she had tried to get closer to Nala. Nala and Simba were betrothed to each other, and neither Sarabi, nor, Sarafina knew how Nala would react to Simba's death. Today they had found food, Sarabi still being the head of the hunting party, but Scar quickly took it off them to feed the Hyenas, and himself. She would have to find something soon, especially for the young Nala.

On a quiet ledge all by herself Sarafina sat alone she didn't feel much like being around the others, she had too much on her mind. She feared for Nala's life and the rest of the Pride, It didn't make sense she thought how did things go from being so perfect to being so horrible so quickly. Night was beginning to fall and Sarafina's stomach growled and she felt the stabbing pains of hunger, she tried not to think about it which helped sometimes. Finally she decided to get up and go search for her old friend Sarabi, she understood her pain.The loss of Mufasa took a toll on her but to loose Simba as well was almost too much to bear,But she greatly admired Sarabi's determination and courage through these awful events.

She started heading back towards the den, where Sarabi usually was, she wondered where Nala was. Since Simba's death she tried to keep Nala closer to her, but no matter how much she tried Nala sometimes just liked being by herself. Sarafina arrived at the den and spotted Sarabi and Sarabi and went and sat next to her, Sarafina gave Sarabi a small smile before saying "Sarabi have you seen Nala?"

"Hello Sarafina" Sarabi said, giving a half hearted smile back. "I don't know where Nala is, the last time I had see her she was coming back here from the water hole" she said. However her sorrow quickly turned to anger. "Do you believ the nerve of Scar?!" she asked "we had been out there all day, and when we get back His pet took all the food!" she scoffed.

After a few moments, Sarabi calmed down. "Im sorry Sarafina, it's just been so hard for me" she said. "I shouldent be angry, we've got to be strong. Show Nala what being a lioness is all about" Sarabi finished, her natural determination shining through again.

Sarafina sighed and looked at the ground, She felt bad that the lionesses were put below the hyenas and Zira and Scar didn't even care if they starved or not, but she knew there was no use getting angry about it. "Its ok Sarabi, I know things have been rough on you and all of us,but just remember I will always be here for you."with that she managed a small smile at her old friend.

Nala wandered back from her trip to the water hole.She had gone there by herself earlier, wanting time to think. She had grown during the time Scar had been king. Her fur had darkend slightly, she had gotten muscles from frequent (and often friutless) hunting trips, which were steadily going further afield and she was now a strong, beautiful young lioness. She thought of her mother and Sarabi, her protectirs during this terrible time. Without them she may have died much younger, due to either the lack of food or the hyenas hunger. She felt anger at how they, and all the lionesses, apart from Zira, Scars queen, were being treated. 'We are nothing to him' She thought angrily. 'Nothing but food and cub providers. I don't know how we'll survive.' As she neared the lionesses den she saw her mother and Sarabi. She put on a happy face (for she didn't want to worry them) and trotted up. "Hi mom, Sarabi. How are you? Are we doing a hunting trip?"

Its ok Sarabi, I know things have been rough on you and all of us,but just remember I will always be here for you. Sarafina said. Sarabi smiled and gave Sarafina a small Nuzzle. "I know you will Sarafina" Sarabi said. "And, 'll always be there for you and Nala" Sarabi said smiling. Sarabi didn't feel any better though, She felt even worse. She didn't blame Sarafina, but she couldn't tell her exactly what she was feeling. She didn't know herself.

Hi mom, Sarabi. How are you? came a young female voice from behind Sarabi. "Nala" Sarabi said, her voice filled with relief. "I'm fine" Sarabi lied, she didn't want to worry Nala, she was still young. Are we doing a hunting trip? Nala asked. "We went on one before" Sarabi said with anger in her voice. "But The King and his Pet took the kill" she said angrily, looking at Sarafina, "Before scar took it, i managed to get a bit off it" Sarabi said getting a small square of meat from the entrance of the den, "I want you to have it" Sarabi said, giving the meat to Nala

Nala stared at the meat. It was a small peice but she had leart to live on less. "Thankyou." She said and ate it in a couple of bites. It filled a small hole. She cleaned her mouth with a paw and said "So, if we are not supplying our noble leader with sustenence, what are we doing?" She looked out over the lands. They had once been so green, so lush. Nala could still remember the scent of the healthy kingdom. But now they were grey and bare, the herds having all but moved on. A few of the stupid and hopeful stayed but right at the edge of the territory for fear of the hyena's. Prey was very scarce and any they caught went straigt to Scar. They had to steal bits off the carcasses to survive, the young cubs now coming on hunts so they could have food. These scraps kept them alive.

Thank you. Nala said. "Your Welcome Nala" Sarabi smiled, knowing the young lioness appreciated the food. "I don't know, we were just talking about the King and queen, Weren't we Sarafina?" Sarabi said. Sarabi was watchful the whole time, making sure the Hyenas didn't get the food Nala was eating. And to make sure the King and Queen didn't approach them, because if they did, so help her she would rip them both to shreds for food.

"Ah" Nala said. The king and queen. Zira was all Scar thought about, now she was pregnant with his cubs. She got all the food, attention and hatred from the hyenas, as she was now getting extra food from their share. She now travelled with a bodygaurd at all times, after the last attack. 'Shame it didn't work' She thought, smirking, then caught Sarafina watching her and made her face straigt again.

"So what has our dear, dear queen done this time?" Nala asked, stretching herself out.
