Plot
It has been a years since the race with the bush plane and the mail sled dogs. Things have been pretty quiet in Nome, and no really big events had occurred. Balto was thinking of retirement as he was getting a little bit past 50 in human years. When a new human moves into Nome with his wolf, Amarok, it causes an uproar in the town. He assured all the humans that Amarok was not dangerous and that he only finishes game if the shot didn't kill it. The people of Nome understood that Amarok was not going to kill them in their sleep, but they also knew NOT to interact with him at all. The dogs of Nome very much feared the new arctic wolf that was living in the same village, and they avoided him all together. Only Balto, who had encountered wolves before, had dared to speak to him.
Amarok tries his best to try and show both the dogs and the humans of Nome that he was not to be feared. Whenever he tries to speak with any other canine, they just run off however. It does not really hinder his spirits however. Whilst all of Amarok's Nome troubles are going on, in the woods near Nome there is a pack of Arctic wolves that are slowly dying off because food was becoming scare once more. The leader is coincidentally Amarok's older brother, whom Amarok had never met.
Amarok's older brother is called Mior, and in terms of his leading skills he is just a tyrant. The pack thinks of killing him often for his misdeeds, but then they'd have no one to lead them and they'd die out anyways. Also, it is within old tradition that the new leader would show himself when the time came through a heroic liberation from the rule of the current leader. Of course, Mior knows this as well and tries his best to keep is grip on the pack. Mior knows of his younger brother, and has nightmares of him coming back and defeating Mior to take over the pack.
Mior sends several wolf parties near Norm to kill Amarok, but these wolves never really do. They just fake trying, and times actually tell him that their leader Mior wouldn't stop sending them until Amarok was dead, in order to motivate him to get rid of Mior. The fact was, these pack leaders WANTED Amarok to be pack leader because he showed far more grace and self-restraint than any leader before. Amarok however, has no interest in joining a pack as he thinks that it will turn him exactly into what every thought of him as. A monster.
