I know! That is so weird.. When she was a cub, it didn’t seem to bother him that much if she broke his rules and put herself in danger. But when she’s a young adult, Simba freaks out at everything.
In a way, you’d think he’d be the other way around. Be less protective as his daughter grew older and slowly became independant.

In all fairness however, the things that happened to Kiara when she was older and given the circumstances to which they happened, it would seem logical that Simba would react the way he did though. When Kiara was younger, she disobeyed Simba's word about staying on the path he marked for her. He had no idea about the trouble she had with the crocodiles though, and only thought that she ran into Kovu was all. That's probably why he didn't blow up on her like he does when she's older. The events that occured when Kiara was older seemed more severe though. Kiara almost dying during her first hunt and her wanting to be with Kovu after (what Simba assumes) Kovu tried to kill him with the ambush with Zira, it's understandable that he'd be more upset with her then. Just the way I see things though. :)

Like you said KM, I think Simba would have expected adult Kiara to be more mature, and make the same decisions as he himself would make. That also explains why he spoke to her as though she were a child in many of his lectures to her as an adult.

I've behold between the aspects of the two and I came up with an explanation of my own, based on my analysis.

When Simba and Nala meander to the Elephant Graveyard scene and were almost eaten by the hyenas, Mufasa was there to rescue the two. Simba and Nala's danger chagrined Mufasa and that's what lead to the talk where Mufasa was agitated when talking to Simba.

In Simba's Pride, Cub Kiara disappointed Simba because she ran off to the outlands and put herself in danger, but Simba does not know that. He is angered at Kiara for disappointing him fro running off to the Outlands, not putting one's self in danger.

Maybe, Simba realized the danger he putted him and Nala in when they were cubs, knowing why Mufasa was upset with him, because of danger. Kiara, however, just disappointed him, thus going easy on her.

Haha, I love how Simba hid in the hay right after Mufasa said he has to teach him a lesson. But who wouldn't in his place - everyone seemed to fear Mufasa's wrath. Anyway I think a big part of Simba almost crying at one point was because he knew his father was disappointed in him, which probably was pretty much the end of the world, much more so than him just being angry with him...

Anyway, I think the SP scene was the way it was, simply because Simba is not that much like his father, plus he was uncertain with parenting over-all, especially discipline. Remember, how unwilling he seemed, when Nala implied he should talk to/discipline Kiara. He doesn't have it in him, in discipline matters. And how could he have? He was a wild child himself, and lost his role model while still being that and very young, and then almost immediately he threw himself into the Hakuna Matata life style with couple of scoundrels. He had no chance to really grow up the normal way and into an inner balance.

So, to a far extent I think the talk scene was realistic and logic, but yep, there is still the odd absence of upsetness and anger for even a moment. For Heaven's sake, he could've lost his only child, of whom he was over-protective anyway. Realistically he should've been way more upset, even if they didn't want to express it through downright anger. It's a bit too pathetic seeing to what had happened... the rather just displeased "hmph!" expression Simba looks down on her with.

In that scene, just before their conversation Nala looks at him, and Simba clears his throat- meaning it's time for 'The Talk'.
This probably meant that he knew Kiara didn't understand properlly, and Simba didn't want to make her cry, cause he's nice like that ^^

I think Simba would have preferred that Kiara understand him. He just had to give up I think.

Yeah, I definatly get the impression that Simba didn’t want to be as harsh on Kiara as Mufasa was on him; he didn’t want to scare her or make her feel small.

But Simba seems at a loss when it comes to making Kiara understand him... He just keeps repeating that he loves her and wants her to be safe. Kiara gets annoyed by this as she’s heard it countless times before. Simba doesn’t manage to get through to her when he always lectures her in the same way.
