how 'bout some deep philosic discussion about "normal"

Postby thanigraphics » April 27th, 2010, 12:58 am

In real life, I love this deep conversations and philosophi-ing (sorry, bad English again) about all kinds of matters. So.... what do you consider normal in a human beeing? And, more interesting, what do you consider beeing abnormal?

I'll start and do the opening shot ^^
I consider it normal when people recognize their own emotions, are able to interact with others and respect all beeings, no matter how they differ from each other. Sometimes it costs me more energy, but I think for every action a person takes there is a motivation layed within. Even if that action is considered "not good" by others.
I believe that, with extra effort, everyone can be able to "read" others and understand their habits.
I also believe that the term "normal" is based on the culture and environment the person is living in, sometimes based on familiar situations, sometimes based on a religious culture.

I believe a person is "abnormal" (this is NOT meant in a negative way, just the literally word abnormal -google it- has no bad meaning about someone) is when his/her behaviour misfits the values of the culture or environment the person is living in. I also believe when you take a person from his/her cultural environment and take him/her into a different cultural environment, this person will develop abnormal behaviour, since the person will experience his/her current behaviour doesn't fit in the new social environment. The person will develop other behaviour in order to try to fit in, or gets frustrated and develops antisocial behaviour.

This is based on my own thinking, not on any scientific source.

Now I'd like some of your opinions, take it deeeeep ;)

It's only 6:35AM and I have only just woke up, haven't had breakfast (by breakfast I mean, a cup of tea) yet. So i'm going to cut this short:
Normal: A person is behaving naturally and this shows clearly.
Abnormal: A person is not acting on their own free will.

Edit: that is assuming you meant normal, in the sense of human behaviour. I to enjoy a good discussion / debate on subjects like these as it gives you a good sense of who the person truly is and how they might behave in reality. However, human psychology is generally not as interesting a subject for me. So sorry if I appear to not give it much thought when replying.
