A Twisted Love Story

It was a peaceful day in the valley. The pack was up to their usual and it seemed as if nothing exciting was ever going to happen. The Alphas were busy running the pack and keeping track of their pups. Of course, if they were to get distracted the betas would just have to take over. Buffy was the male beta, his current mate he did not know too well. But they got along good enough and they got the job done so all was well. After all, they couldn't really mate when the alphas reserved that right. So their relationship wasn't too important to them, only to the pack. The latest litter of pups had a total of 5 pups in it. At birth it had been 7 but two were stillborn. Out of the living pups in the litter, there were 2 males and 3 females. All in the regular shade of gray. They were soon to be taken on their first hunting trip, and it had to be soon because their energy level increased everyday. As the Alpha pair ran off for some time by them selves, the beta pair stayed behind with the pups. Which meant Buffy and his mate were stuck babysitting. His current mate was named Takora. She was a regular gray wolf and an ok wolf to hang around with. But he didn't really love her.

Another, less known member of the pack was a young female wolf named Shakira. Her fur seemed to have every color in them, but from a distance she looked like a regular brown-ish/gray wolf. She didn't have a specific job in the pack, except hunting when needed. So she would normally just be lounging around during the day.

It was then time for the hunt of the day, the alphas gathered the pack up and ran off. Leaving the betas for themselves. Takora gave Buffy a lick on the muzzle, she seemed to care for him. He just responded by licking her ear and then returning his attention to the pups. "Buffy, don't you ever wish to go away and start our own pack?" Takora asked him and immediatly saw that this would become an akward conversation. "No, not really. For now I am pleased with the pack. And I don't think I would want to lose my rank as Beta." He replied and simply kept his eye on one of the pups who was wandering a bit too far from home. The pup was immediatly about to go down a small hill where he would be out of sight when Buffy got up and went after him. He opened his mouth and his big teeth could be seen. Of course, he wasn't going to hurt the pup. He picked the young pup up by the neck and carried him back to the den. The little one recieved a warm welcome back from his loving brother and sisters. Buffy smiled for one moment before laying down beside Takora again. She quietly sighed, but not quiet enough. "What is it Takora?" Buffy asked. He was concerned that he had said something wrong. "It's nothing, it's just... I always wanted a family..." He gave a small smile before nuzzling her. "You have a family..." She wasn't sure if she understood, but she knew that everything would be ok from now on.

They were still nuzzling when they were interrupted by a low rustling sound from the bushes near the den. Both of them reacted immediatly. Takora got the pups into the den and Buffy defended the terretory while figuring out what was there. It was hard for him, he couldn't see the creature, and he could not feel a difference in the air either. What kind of creature had no smell? He decided to take his chances and jumped into the bush, landing on something furry that gave out a huge yelp! He looked down to see Stitch, the omega wolf of the pack. Buffy's pulled back and his teeth could no longer be seen again. "What are you doing here, Stitch? You're supposed to be with the pack hunting for food!" Buffy had already started giving him a dose of daily advice, but stopped when Takora called. "Buffy! Let him go, if he's lucky he won't be banned from the pack after this stunt!" Buffy decided to back away and before you knew it, Stitch was gone as quickly as he had appeared. Buffy rolled his brown eyes and returned to the den.

Meanwhile, the pack was out hunting. They had a flock of deer in their sight and they were hoping for at least two kills. The older wolves were sent to catch a fawn, and the younger ones would catch a deer or if they were lucky, 2 deers. As they were getting ready for the attack, someone was obviously missing. The Alpha male, named Brutus looked around before slowly sneaking towards his mate. "Have you seen that loser, Stitch?" She shook her head, but kept her eyes on the prize. A mother deer who had a wee baby beneath her legs. "He's run off from a hunt again." She sighed before replying, "Look, it's probably better anyway. And he'll be eating last too, so you shouldn't worry. Lets focus on the hunt now, if not the pups will get hungry!" She put one paw forward and got a bit closer. The deer was still unaware of what was out there, but she knew something was there. Brutus got back into position and waited for the right moment to give the command. Within seconds there was chaos! The wolves lept after the deer! The entire scene was chaotic. But as soon as mama fell to the ground, so did baby. The Alpha female ended with her classic words, "A hunt well done!"

They dragged the carcass back to the den and gave a howl of victory. Takora and Buffy got the pups out and the Alpha family fed first. Buffy glared to the bushes, where Stitch was nervously sitting, watching them feed on the dead animal they had so successfully killed. As soon as the Alphas had fed, the betas were next in line. Buffy stared at Stitch the entire time he was eating. He was proud, and so happy that Stitch was Omega. They were just about done when the rest of the pack came forward to eat. That was the first time Buffy really noticed Shakira. Her yellow eyes looking at the fresh meat as she chewed and chewed. He had never seen such beautiful eyes, and he didn't even know her name. However, he backed away and lay down near the den. Just looking at her eat the meat. So intensely, and yet, so gracefully. There was something about her that had caught his eye.
