Nuka's death

Nuka's death

Postby Wereberess » April 3rd, 2010, 2:59 am

Did you cry at it? And was it really his fault?

Yeah Nuka was in on the whole "We must murder Simba." but look deeper.

Nuka was ignored and lived in Kovu's shadow.

When he leaps up he log he says "I'll do it. For you mother!" "Mother are you watching?!"

Also in a deleted scene he says "Well...i finally got your attention didn't I?...Didn't I?"

I honestly think they should've kept that part. The reason they gave for taking it out was they thought kids were going to hurt themselves for their parents attention. Well...him leaping up the log saying "I'll do it for you mother." and falling to his death is the same thing no?

I think Nuka's death was Zira's fault if anyone's.(Though another part of me thinks attention given or not he would've leaped op that dam anyway  )

It was sad that Nuka had to die how he did, but it was also crutial for the storyline as well, seeing as his death was pretty much the turning point when Zira had had enough and was truly focused upon killing Simba. I don't think it was ever implied that Nuka's death was his own fault though. I think the general consensus was that he was trying to prove to his mother that he should have been The Chosen One, not Kovu and his death was just a tragic turn of events.

I didn't cry--I actually didn't think much of it the first time I saw SP, but then again, I was pretty young. Nowadays Nuka's death is really sad to me, probably more so even than Mufasa's. Poor guy; it must have been awful living in his brother's shadow his whole life, and he literally gave everything just for that little bit of love Zira showed him at the end. :(

I thought it was odd too; you don't normally see a villain's death being portrayed in such a sympathetic light, especially in a Disney movie.
Picture that. In your dreams.

It was originally even more sympathetic, he originally said "Well, looks like I finally got your attention didn't I?" as his last line before he died Link here if your'e interested (Might wanna check Zira's death too) 0.0. Either way though you still feel sorry for him and I think it helped the Story greatly.
But no I did not cry, I was surprised though.

I feel really bad for Vitani :'( lol, She clearly loved her brother in a Vitani sort of way, and, no matter how tough she may act, I don't think she'd ever lived through a tragedy like that. This is also one of the only times we see Vitani express a real emotion. Must have been a shock, and I'm sure it opened her eyes to how her mother's senseless quest for vengeance was only bringing about harm. A poignant and critical moment in the film, and very well done =)

I think the story would've been more interesting if Vitani had died.

Don't get me wrong. She's a cool character.

True.

Why Zira blames Kovu never made any sense to me. :hmm:

I think the other version actually made it a bit happier. It seemed like Nuka had died happy, finally getting attention. In the final cut he died apologizing for his failure to Zira.

It was definitely sad, though. Nuka might've been bad, but it was only because of Zira, and a lot of what he did was just done to get some attention.

Mike, you made a great point.

That's true; for all the crap he had to put up with, the very least that could happen was he finding some closure in death; but if you think about it, he still did. He died apologizing, but instead of screaming bloody murder at him, Zira was practically cradling him and trying to comfort him. Not to mention she reacted with shock/concern over Nuka getting crushed by the logs. The original version, though, Nuka acted more sarcastic if anything.
Thanks, Simbadacub!
