I agree. I’ve never thought Simba looked overweight. He’s bigger in SP than in TLK, more "filled-out" in a way.

Same, I just thought he looked like an older, bigger, but still teddybearlike, version of Simba. =P

Do you guys think this is just bad animation and continuance, or were they trying to make it a different presentation by aging Simba and Nala?

Whatever the reason was, it would neither way be because of bad animation.

Different people drawing the characters = different characters. Easy as that.

They tried to Make Simba and Nala rip offs of Mufasa and Sarabi.
They failed.

Kiara was SUPOSED to be the cub at the end of TLK where the two characters look normal. If this is true then those two lions in the begining of SP must be Simba and Nala's understudies(LOL)

Ah..No. According to different Disney sources, that was "Fluffy" who was male. He was made into..I can't recall his name, but he was a male cub (Tanabi or something). Who had a sister. Eventually he was taken out of the script and Kiara was retconned into him.

If you look at really all Disney sequels, the characters look different in some sort of way and are older. Simba is no exception.

Kopa? Yes and no. Kopa has the same role as him, and same gender, however Kopa was a creation of the books. The LK creators didn't know his existence. The cub at the end, if he would have stayed, almost defiantly would not have looked like Kopa and had a different production name. Unless for some reason they learned about Kopa, and used his design and name pre-release, there's no way he would truly have been him.
