While I don't know everything about the situation, I can definitely see why so many left because of Moka. Low-priority for him or not, there really was no reason to take away the mods ability to moderate, and I'd imagine that was the last straw for many people. If he feared mods would get too ban-happy, well, there are other solutions than stripping them of all ability. Temporarily taking the ability to ban away, or temporarily demoting those he thought would be too ban-happy, and seeing how things went from there, would be a start.
I do also think he didn't remain neutral enough and sided with those who were causing trouble with other users; longtime users who were active participants in so many threads and gave MLK so much life. I do see where banning those who stirred the pot may have been too harsh (provided any offenses were relatively minor), but I can't help but feel like some sort of better solution could have been reached. Something just doesn't sit right with me about so many active and caring members feeling forced to leave. I'm not entirely sure what could have been done, especially since the minutiae of everything that transpired isn't something I feel I'm knowledgeable enough on, but my intuition is definitely telling me a better compromise could and should have been reached.
