New episode - "The Trail to Udugu"

I liked the episode, it was nice to see kion and kiara working together! And Nala getting a chance to be a parent. Though I agree with panpardus that the search to find Nala didn't feel urgent enough. I think maybe the song should've taken place there and more dramatic instead of Bunga being silly early in the episode. Or maybe the viewer shouldn't have been let in on the secret that Nala was fine, just hiding. It was all very predictable. Also, there was some more of Kiara's inconsistencies with the second movie in this episode, but at this point, I wouldn't expect anything different. I knock on this show a lot, but I really did enjoy the episode, I'm probably gonna rewatch it.

Also, I wonder if udugu is a tradition that Simba and Nala just made up, because Simba knows the importance of getting along with siblings with Scar, or if Rafiki told them about it. There's no way Simba got to experience Udugu with his presumably being an only child and running away as a cub.

I really don't think Kiara being willing to take on her leadership role is a full-out contradiction or inconsistency, at least not as much as people make it out to be. She only really expresses trepidation about it during the "We Are One" scene, but after that we never actually see her complain about being the future queen; at that point her qualms only seem to extend as far as wanting her dad to stop being so protective of her. I've always thought her seeming change of heart towards being queen was a result of the encounter with Kovu and Zira; surely that must've been something of a reality shock. As for her snippiness, I don't think that's too out of character either; she came up with that "You will never be Mufasa!" line pretty quickly. Kiara's always had a bit of an attitude, we're just seeing more of it in her preteen years.
(attitude --> :roll:)

I was hoping for a song from Nala, actually; something slower-paced and reflective. I know it's aimed at preschoolers, but some musical variety would be good; it's not even that the songs have necessarily gotten bad, just that they've become pretty monotonous as of late, to the point where they're not all that memorable.

As far as the udugu tradition, I'm willing to bet that Rafiki and Zazu (maybe even Sarabi, if she's still around at this point) have been helping out Simba and Nala with their transition to power; it would explain why we see Rafiki around Pride Rock so often in the show.

When I mentioned Kiara's inconsistencies, I was mainly thinking about her being such a good tracker in the show and being able to sneak up on Kion like that. Maybe I'm just rusty on my lion king knowledge since no one else seems bothered LOL.

Good point on Zazu, I didn't think about him. They're both probably really helpful in guiding Simba, even though he's still not totally prepared to rule as we see in this episode and saw in the 2nd movie. and I want some closure about Sarabi, but I'm not holding my breath for her to show up outside of rafiki's paintings.

Actually what we saw from Kiara in Lion King 2 was that she is a bad hunter. Her tracking skills are actually great as she had no trouble finding her prey. It was the moving to attack where she faltered. Now since she had no intention of killing Kion she therefore did not panic and was able to get the drop on him.

I thought this was a very good episode, the two plot lines were given equal importance, and there were many things I liked:

Spoiler: show
I loved seeing Kiara and Kion play together. I know it was tracking practice for Kiara but it was still them playing and showing genuine sibling affection for one another. I also got a kick out of how Kiara pinned Kion. Then the way they quickly decided to work together was great and it showed how much that they truly respect one another's talents.

As for how Simba led the guard, I guess he was showing them he respected them by treating them as he would a team of Lions and trusting that anything he could do they could do too. I was slightly annoyed that he didn't share credit with The Lion Guard for saving the Ostrich Eggs, but he was merely appreciating the gratitude that was expressed to him not hogging any glory. The one thing that bothered me was that he did not realize that the sight of a charging lion would spook the gazelles, but perhaps he was also trying to impress The Guard with his leadership skills and just forgot to factor that in. Anyhow in typical Simba fashion, once he realizes his mistake he admits it.
I also liked (for reasons I won't go into, but should be obvious.) That Simba flat out said that he never had any brothers or sisters.

One other thing I'd like to mention is that based on the condescending way Kiara refers to Kion as her little brother. Makes me believe that they are twins/littermates otherwise there would be no reason for Kiara to rub the fact that she is older than Kion in his face like that. Kion's obvious annoyance at this also indicates that he does not think that their age gap is something that Kiara should be able to rub his face in. That is why I believe that Kiara and Kion are littermates/twins.

i don't think they are littermates at all, and in this episode we see a lot of times kiara and kion side by side and we see that kiara is slightly bigger than kion.

Female lions also tend to age slower than males iirc.

The ep was really nice! My only complaints are that it sounded like rob lowe had a cold and nalas body got a bit bulky....

Simbas model seems to be looking more and more like classic simba as the series goes on. The animations are also looking smoother.

The song was half decent. Plenty of fun animations. No Mufasa and no roar, it is always nice seeing the writers not use those two things as a crutch.

Also Simba mentioned he had no siblings, meaning what should have been obvious to all but somehow wasn't...Nala's father in the cave painting was NOT mufasa.

Always nice to see simba and nala get more screentime, and i really liked the last 20 seconds of the show. Had this nice grandoise feel.
