I think Kovu's design is partially based on Kopa's, as seen by his head tuft and body built. The only different things are the colouring, nose shape and cheek fluffs

I once saw a pic of Kopa who was shot with a paint gun and was turned into Kovu

Hmm,
that sounds interesting, if that's true, in that case, the movie would focus on most of the time on Kopa and no in Kovu

My favorite character. I read 'Six New Adventure' a few weeks ago. Then I began searching up on him and I found a comic on deviant art [art website] from kati~kopa:

Sometimes I simply sit down and write because I cannot help it. Who knows, perhaps one day something will come out of it. Writing is the only thing that, when I do it, I don't feel I should be doing something else.

Yep, that makes sense, even though I don't think that was the plot Disney had in mind. It was asked to Disney by one of a TLK community members, and Disney answered that in the TLK movie universe, Simba never had a son, even though that's contradicting if you see the ending.
For myself, I believe the same thing as you describe: First Simba had a son, Kopa. He got killed by Zira, Zira got banished and Simba gets daughter Kiara. It also explains why Simba is so over-protective towards his second child: his firstborn has been killed.

I’ve always thought Kopa died in an accident while exploring the Pride Lands, and that has lead to Simbas over-protectiveness of Kiara. I do agree it makes a lot of sense that Zira killed Kopa, but at the same time it’s a little confusing. If Zira did indeed kill Kopa, what did she excpect to happen? That Simba would choose her cub Nuka as crownprince?
