Not really surprising that such a thing would happen, though. Parents often forget their own children, which often has dire consequences. I feel so bad for any parent that goes through that, as I can only imagine how distracted one would be while juggling (a) kid(s), job, babysitter, etc. I also feel bad for parents who face punishment from the law for such a thing, as I think the guilt they feel is punishment enough. Poor overworked parents didn't intend on breaking the law.
I completely agree. When I was on 5th grade, my mom once forgot to pick me up from school and I stayed there for, like, 45 minutes. I kept watching everyone come and go, until someone lent me a cellphone, since the battery of my own was empty (Luck from the devil, indeed!).
If nothing bad happened to the child nor she/he was put in danger, I don't see why people get "OMFGIMSOMAD" at some parents, who happened to forget their child that one time for X or Y reason. I'm not saying that it is correct, but we're not perfect, we are human beings.

I might later, but for the moment I think I'll just try to write for a while. I don't feel like too much interaction right now for some reason. :s
