^ I don't know. She's very old, and has an enlarged heart. She wasn't able to breathe yesterday. My mom took her to the vet today, and she had jaundice, fluid in her lungs, and she can't get enough oxygen into her body. She's in like some sort of oxygen tank to help her breathe, and she's staying overnight at the vet. But it doesn't look good.

Still sad. Waiting to hear how my dog is doing tomorrow.

I'm really sorry to hear that, Alicia. :/

I'm feeling, well, still stressed and kinda crumby, tbh, but at least I got a collector's album for my Pokémon and Dragon Ball trading cards finally, and was finally able to put my clothes into my closet.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the concern. We'll see how things turn out, but I'm prepping myself for the worst. If it isn't now, the end will come sooner rather than later. My mom wants to try to save her this once, but I really just feel like she's merely prolonging the inevitable.

Tired and worried.

I agree. It's kinda silly, to be honest. Personally, if my cat was sick and dying, I would go ahead and put her to sleep. Anything else, I think, is kinda selfish.

Think about it. If you're in that condition, would you want someone keeping you alive, just so that they can keep you for another few more days or weeks or however long? We always think of putting animals down as being the wrong or otherwise unethical thing to do, especially since they're such loyal companions. But sometimes, it's the right choice to make. I wouldn't want a long and slow and painful death--I want something quick so that I don't have to suffer.

When people get old, it's not just one or two things that go bad. It's everything that goes bad. If you don't die of a heart attack or a stroke, you'll eventually die of skin cancer, a liver problem, or something like that. Old age affects all parts of the body, and the result is that, eventually, everything just stops working. For humans, this happens after we're 70 years old or so. For dogs and most other animals, it's much sooner. As unfortunate as it is, you have the right mindset here, and I think it's good that you can see this for what it is.

^ Exactly. Her most prominent issue was the fact that she had signs of congestive heart failure, but she also had jaundice, indicating an issue with her liver. Her body is just starting to shut down at this point. Not surprising, given her age. We think she's around 15 or 16 years old. She's very old. Her body is shutting down. All saving her will do is prolong her suffering. The hardest thing to watch before my mom took her to the vet was watching her struggle to breathe, and panic because she couldn't get enough oxygen in. I don't want to watch that again. But I'll have to if we do try to save her. It's just time.

^I know the feeling, my oldest dog died these past weeks as well "/ We rescued her from the streets when she was already old so we don't know for sure how old she was. Days before the matter she was already blind, couldn't hear us, I had to stay up all night to move her from the corners of my house (because if she ended up facing one she would just stand there and cry until someone helped her) and in the morning she throw up blood and my mom decided to put her to sleep. She had the option to keep her alive, but for what? Make her suffer even more? It's kinda selfish to do so because you may be okay but the animal is not, it's in pain. Like Regulus said, which I quote:

But I hope you guys end up deciding what is right!

Not really well, tbh. My eyes hurt, and this headache doesn't want to go away. Besides that I'm extremely worried because I have an important "essay" to present this Monday/Tuesday and I think I'll fail @_@
