European Union: Britain, remain or leave?

What's your point? The U.K is still like that even if it leaves the EU.
Why for the love of everything that is good would I want to give the government MORE power than it already has? The U.K government and political system is already one of the worst democracies in Europe... I don't think that giving the government more freedom to make their own laws up out of thin air without the governing EU body to tell them off.

Do I like freedom? Yes. Do I think there's a certain level of trust that has to be acquired before that freedom should be given? Also yes. And frankly I don't trust the government here.

One of the biggest arguments for Leave is "Oh well then we will have our own independence!"
Did you SEE how fast the torries started to lie during the elections? And you think they should be given more freedom?
The people of the U.K won't be free, the government will be free and that terrifies me and should terrify anyone else who lives here as well.

Flip summed it up really. It's not that I love the EU, it's that I think the UK government is already bad enough as it is and being without restraint would likely be worse off for UK citizens.

And honestly, I don't know of any system where there's a 'real' democracy anymore. Maybe I'm just overly disillusioned but 'power to the people' is just not a thing, at this point we're all just picking for the lesser evils and hope we don't get screwed over too badly when the same terrible parties inevitably end up with most votes.

And yes, I'm also very interested to see the result. It seems like it could end up either way now.

Yeah I will say it seems like more people are actually using their right to vote this time.
DYK: around a third of registered voters didn't vote in the general elections? But this time it seems like more people are wanting to vote, maybe because there is only two options so you're more likely to be represented in the result.

Problem is there's no way to fix the current voting system unless EVERYONE protests it. Or everyone takes the UK government to court and sues their own government under European Law for not being a democracy.

The system we have now ensures the people in power stay in power and that was put in place because the people in power scaremongered everyone into changing to it saying "OH WE NEED TO CHANGE OUR VOTING SYSTEM ITS SO CONFUSING!" so we did and now we have a first past the post system. This means that conservatives "Won" with the majority vote... But they only got 36% of votes.

64% of voters didn't want conservatives to be in power, yet here we are in 2016 and they are the strongest party in government.
Like I said the UK gov should be sued because as a member of EU it wasn't a democracy even though EU law states:

"stability of institutions guaranteeing democracy, the rule of law, human rights and respect for and protection of minorities;"

Just voted to stay. I saw the arguments to leave, especially the democratic ones, but at the end of the day things are not terrible for the UK now and as selfish as it sounds, I'd rather keep the status quo rather than potentially put the economy in decline. Personally, I think Leave will win - we'll just have to wait and see.
