I've heard so many American horror stories about college debt that I'm really glad I don't live there, jesus christ.

^ I sincerely hope it's not as bad for people who study things that are more useful skills since I don't want the people going to end up in the place I am, but yeah none of the things I could do are practical and well, here I am on the other side, the degree not helping, and owing money for the last year or so. I'm glad I didn't need loans for the other years because I already don't know how I'm going to pay off the loans I have from the one.

Doesn't help that the only place who's shown interest in hiring me still hasn't and are backwards as hell. I really don't think I can work for them, tbh, as much as I need the money--they refuse to see me as anything other than female for one thing (which I expected and was just going to suck it up and deal with) but for another thing, one of their managers told me during the interview that they don't think women can do night maintenance or wash the dishes because it's hard work. The other manager seemed nice enough, but after that and considering how difficult it even is to schedule going into a physical place on account of other obligations...

Well I know they say beggars can't be choosers, but I'd rather keep begging than let people belittle me and women like that on the daily.

Personally I find it a shame that we've turned something as important as higher education into more of a business, while it's not practical to pursue creative degrees it really shouldn't be that way. It's sad that we're dissuaded from studying what we really want to study because it could be considered "useless" in the job market. :/

Good god yeah, the American South isn't exactly known for its... openmindedness. Greece was very much the same way sometimes and I hated it, sorry you're having trouble. :/ It sucks when you disagree with most mindsets of the place you live in.

Haha. I totally forgot there was a new episode of OUAT a couple nights ago because I've been so focused on the new job potential. :chuckle:

I concur. Every bit of this is completely absurd in every way. I also find it ridiculous that just about every job is catered towards outgoing charismatic people, and so people like me who can't be charismatic to save a life are pretty well out of luck, no matter what skills they have that could be valuable.

Yep, it sure does. And thanks.
Turns out I don't even get to decide if I'm comfortable working for such people because since posting about them, they called me in for orientation and then emailed me the expected dress code I have to wear for said orientation... the orientation is supposed to be in about 2 hours and I don't have the clothes I need nor the money to buy it. I tried to call them to say I can't come, and wouldn't you know it, I just get these high pitched screeching noises when I do.

What a lovely bunch of people. :)

That too, it sucks that the job market favours extroverts but... it is what it is. :/

Alright so orientation is back on but two weeks from now. At least there's that going for them--the management is much better than the last place I worked, they're organized, and the trainer who called me today apologized about not mentioning the dress code. They seem to like me well enough so I guess I'll roll with it for now. Maybe however many of them have backwards views will just keep it to themselves most of the time and let me just wash dishes peacefully.
