Kovu in the Lion Guard

Kovu in the Lion Guard

I personally found it to be rather annoying that they were bringing back Jason Marsden to voice Kovu. Why? Not that Marsden isn't a good voice actor, but because it is unrealistic. I mean, COME ON DISNEY! Kovu is the same age as Kiara, he's still a cub, find a kid to do the voice! Can anyone imagine Kion being voiced by some dude in their early 40's?

Well, it's always been a mystery as to what the age difference is between Kovu and Kiara. Hopefully, adding Kovu into the series will clear it up. Kiara may still be a cub, but she's slightly older than how she was seen in the first half of Simba's Pride. Kovu may have hit puberty in the show given Jason Marsden's casting hence he will have his adult voice. Lastly, to me, Jason Marsden is a very good voice actor and if he wasn't, he wouldn't have been in the voice acting industry for as long as he has been.

Okay, decent was perhaps not doing the guy justice, but anyway, if they animate a Kovu as a cub the same size as Kion and have him voiced by a forty year old man, I swear, I'll turn the episode off and boycott all episodes of TLG featuring Kovu.

Technically, Kovu should be older than Kiara, and Kiara could be as old as preteen in TLG. Which would make Kovu a teenager, and Marsden can probably pull off a teenage voice.

And besides, voice acting can work in strange ways sometimes. Would you think a 58-year-old woman could voice a 10-year-old boy? Probably not, yet here we are with Bart Simpson.

But not THAT much older, the creators of TLK 2 did say Kovu was a teenager, after all. As was Kiara in the movie. Older, but yet fully grown.

But in all fairness, Nancy Cartwright never sounded like an actual kid either. She made her voice light and more squeaky and it fitted Bart's face for that kind of show, but TLG is very different from The Simpson, the Family Guy and South Park. It ought to take itself more seriously than that.

Zach Callison voices Steven in Steven Universe, a show that takes itself more seriously than TLG. Zach is 18 yet he pulls off a very believable 8-year-old voice.

I've seen the show, or at least parts of it, but making one's voice kid-like and actually sounding like a kid is two VERY different things. The only time a animation has ever fooled me into believing a grown man was a kid/teen was when Dante Basco voiced Zuko in Avatar: The Last Airbender, but at that point I had never heard of or seen Basco before, and he is one of those rare adults who actually sounds like he's still a teenager.

If Kovu appears to be as big as Nuka was as a teen in the movie, you'll hear no complaints from me, but if Disney decides to choose nostalgia over believably, whoever gave that order has no business making animated tv shows in the first place. If you want to see Kovu with that voice, sure, make an animated short with him and adult Kiara, but I just don't want to see a Kion-sized cub with the voice of an adult. It would be like the show downgrades their own credibility... That's my opinion, anyway.

I think Steven sounds pretty realistically kid-like. A little bit of deepness to it, but I'd bet some kids do have a hint of deepness to their voice. But you seem impossible to please, so whatever.

I'm only saying is that if Kovu is going to be like a dark-fured version of Kion with other facial characteristics, he ought to sound the part, that's all.

I thought Marsden was NOT going to reprise his role as Kovu?

Well, Kovu is supposed to be a cub (or teenager, whatever) in TLG, I`m assuming, so Marsden seems like an illogical choice, unless he can make his voice sound very young despite his actual age.
I would have preferred if they hired a new, young voice actor for this role, but that aside, I am SO looking forward to seeing Kovu on TLG!
