Paintings & Predictions episode

i liked this episode quite a bit!!

first off, I have to agree....the most exciting part is DEFINITELY the mention of Nala's father. wow!! is anyone else worried they just tossed him in because they needed an explanation for who that cub was, and we won't see anything of him again? I'd LOVE to hear more about him, learn his name, and maybe if we're super lucky, get an episode that will actually have full-on flashbacks to the past instead of just Rafiki's paintings.

I really didn't think Bunga was annoying at all in this episode. loved when Rafiki made him clean at the end, lol. but his concern for Kion was cute, and it was even cuter when the entire Guard was convinced Kion was in danger and they needed to help him.

is it safe to assume that the gazelle couldn't speak and could only make animal noises because it was a baby? it'd be nice to see the gazelles talk....I don't like the idea that they might be dumbing them down so they can show the lions stalking them without guilt.
the zebras were pretty cute and entertaining in this episode. the song, however, seemed unnecessary and out of place. I'd prefer if episodes only had songs that actually really serve to advance the plot or highlight important ideas. also not really enjoying how the hyena songs always have very similar visuals and concepts...let's change it up a little!

I liked this use of the Roar....I thought it was creative and visually really cool.
I wish Kion would chill out, tbh. lmao....he's just SO serious all the time now! I want to more frequently see aspects of his personality other than leadership.

last but not least...as always....I LOVE Rafiki

Like everyone has said, the mention of Nala's Father was awesome  It's good to be reminded that the writers are aware of this shows older fans. I also hope to learn more about Nala's Father, even if it completely undoes my head cannon. 8-) I also really enjoined seeing (once again) how much The Lion Guard cares about Kion.

Not the best episode, but an ok one. The song was alright. Nala's father being mentioned was definitely the most interesting part. It's the first ever official mention of him in any of the Lion King universe, but I wonder how many are gonna accept it in their "canon", after all this time? Personally, I don't worry about that, The Lion Guard is a self-contained universe for me. I don't have a problem with Nala's father being mentioned, and maybe I'll even accept it as my canon. It's cool to have him mentioned, even if it's not really necessary.

Two problems I had: Still no lionesses shown at Pride Rock. It looks really out of place and weird to see these shots of the entire Pride Rock and have it be completely empty. It almost looks abandoned. I mean, couldn't they at least add a few lionesses walking there in the background or something? I doubt their budget is so low that they wouldn't be able to animate a few extra lionesses. The second issue I have is how each of the main cast have their little "catchphrases". Just like the "Lion Guard defend" line is getting old, the catchphrase words are too. It's nice that they have their own lines, but do we really need to hear them every episode? Let alone every three minutes in an episode?

It's taken me a while to reply to the thread as I watched the episode yesterday and I found it a pretty good episode. Like everyone else my favorite part was Nala's father being the cub in the painting and being saved by the Lion Guard (as someone else pointed out either Uru's or Ahadi's guard sibling's guard). I never believed the whole idea of the creators saying Nala's father was either Mufasa or Scar. They went WAY OUT THERE in Simba's Pride repeating that Scar is not Kovu's father so Kiara and Kovu are not first cousins (although Kovu was Scar's son in a draft at one point, but I digress). Since it is not really uncommon in some places for first cousins to marry or was not that unusual in the past even in the U.S. it would not be that weird, but still too weird for contemporary tastes. That being said if first cousins would be weird Nala having Mufasa or Scar as her father would make her a half-sister to Simba and that is just gross eww :ermm: So, I am glad to see some cannon on Nala's father. Of course he still doesn't have a name, but it does seem he resembles Kion as a cub.

The other part of the episode was pretty good. I loved seeing that Fuli seemed the most concerned for Kion's safety even going through water again. Poor Fuli :grumpy2: I do like to see how the Guard takes care of one another. I liked seeing how Rafiki used his paints and made Bunga clean up at the end  My one compliant was that the song Panic and Run was out of place and just well weird...

I thought it was awesome that they mentioned Nala's father. If it was Scar or Mufasa, they probably would have said their name, right?

Exactly, Being that they referred to him only as Nala's Father. It means that he is a different Lion from Mufasa or Scar.

Like everyone else, I loved the mention of Nala's father, and the painting showing he looked a good deal like Kion. Kinda takes the sting off the slight sadness I felt that they didn't give Kion a more Nala-like appearance. Kiara takes after Sarabi, Lion takes after his grandfather on Nala's side.

That aside, episode was good. Don't have much to say other than that. Nothing horrible, nothing amazing. Other than Bunga being forced to clean of course, that was great
