Yeah, I get that. I go along with the concept of canon material for the simple reason that it helps maintain a comprehensible story.

Having officially made non cannon is an odd concept for me. If it is made by the official company then it should be cannon imo.

The shows creator didn't like GT. Which is understandable as it wasn't even based on Manga it was just made to milk in the cash. Although I have to admit I still loved Kid Goku. So the creator vouched for Dragon Ball Super effively making this new timeline the main timeline. (Watch Dragon Ball Z and you'll get the whole timeline thing with Future Trunks.)

It's just like Naruto. Some people think that "everything" is canon, some, like me, don't. We only say that it's canon if it was the creator itself who made it. Like the movies made my Studio Pierrot, they are not canon because they weren't written by Masashi Kishimoto

Which you're definitely more than free to prefer. I personally don't really like OCs unless they're very very well written, but I indulge in non canon material all the time.
