I don't think you're selfishly complaining and I totally agree with you - I also miss those 'raw old days'. I think it's just a matter of realising that this is a show aimed at very young kids, and perhaps the rawness of the original universe isn't enough to satisfy them. It's hard to get your head around but you don't have to accept it as canon if you don't want to. You just have to put up with it, and acknowledge that this is the new direction that TLK is moving in. Doesn't mean it's any better than the old direction.
Not to mention, it'd be downright impossible to make a TV series out of just the material provided in the movie. It'd grow stale fast if they limited themselves to it. Let's see the episode first and then possibly worry. I think the worrying part is unnecessary though. Most likely if he does indeed predict the future correctly, it's just a one-episode deal that you can easily forget if you want to. Besides, I think learning to separate this series from the movies (and the movies from each other as well) is important. Not the biggest fan of turning the Circle of Life into total magic myself, but it nohow ruins the movies. This series is its own thing and you can separate the canons if you feel like doing that. Just like Lelizwe said, nothing is set in stone as this "one, big Lion King universe" unless you want it to be.

Besides, I don't think predicting the future is even that far-fetched with Rafiki's character. Could be far worse. They could've made him shoot magic spells or something lol
