Basically what Elton John said. Add in the fact that you have virtually no control over what you do or when, extra-curriculars are impossible, there's no real opportunity to actually try anything or have new experiences, classes are watered down, slow, and easy, and people are generally obnoxious and irritating.
Then on top of that, my personal experience was made even worse by the fact that I had almost no close friends to speak of (and one of the few I was beginning to get close to died suddenly one day of an aneurysm

), family issues with my dad not being able to get a job and feeling poor and left out, and then, of course, terrible self-esteem issues and depression that I never told anyone about, yet made it hard to go to school even as often as I did (and I was missing 1-2 days a week for 10th-12th grade).
So yeah. Factor all those things together and those were easily the worst three years I've faced so far. There is simply no comparison with any other span of time (except perhaps when I lived in North Carolina but fortunately I was too young then to really have a full understanding of all the problems I was surrounded by over there).
I made four close friends from high school in 12th grade. That made things better. But that's honestly one of the few positive things I can say definitively came from that experience. Aside from that I basically only consider it as a painful and unnecessary stepping stone that I had to endure to get to college.
