Probably because 2 and 3 sucked.

I didn't mind 2, personally, and I haven't seen 3 but I can tell it's probably awful. The first one has always been enjoyable though I used to get scared when Balto got stuck under the ice.
Come to think of it, I've only watched it start to finish about twice

But it's still a good movie, and KEVIN FREAKING BACON IS BALTO. I had no idea of that until recently

I actually never had seen Balto at all until about a year or two ago. But my friend and her younger sisters loved it as kids so she was sure to share with me, lol.
The first one is good but we kind of agreed that the sequels were... well, not so good.
As far as the second one, well, it could've been worse. It could've been like some of the Disney sequels out there... but it still wasn't very good. It wasn't as good as, say, TLK II; in other words, it was a mediocre sequel and poor as a standalone. I mean, I guess it focused on Balto and his daughter, so that was nice, but overall the story didn't make much sense and the animation was very patchy at times (the 3D CGI sequences were especially ugly, sorry, IDK why they thought that was a good idea).
The third Balto movie, though, doesn't even focus on Balto. Or any of the canines, really. They're just kinda shoehorned in while the actual focus of the movie is on Boris and his suddenly-appearing, creepily-sexual-for-a-kids'-movie girlfriend
(God only knows why...). They kind of pulled a TLK III, so... yeah, that was annoying. Not to mention that, in usual trying-to-be-Disney sequel fashion, the parent/kid relationships, from what I can remember, were all weirdly bipolar. Like, one moment Balto is getting along with his family, and then in the next they all hate him basically for no reason.
Now I will admit, I was really only half-paying attention to the two sequels... not to mention, I've only seen Balto two or three times, max, and only seen the sequels once each
(maybe once and half for the first sequel because I'm pretty sure I was completely distracted while watching it the first time, and we didn't make it through the movie lol). But regardless, the sequels aren't really good movies. My friend told me that her and her sisters didn't like them that much even when they were young kids, so I don't think it was just a matter of me being too old to enjoy them, either. xD
EDIT: I was just ninja'd like five times, lol... but I've never been to New York.

So... forum field trip everyone! Let's go!!
