Honestly reading the comics has made me more on edge about the show.

Does the show deviate much from the comics?

The main story is basically the same, but there are loads of differences. I'm at the same point in the story in both, and well, there's characters in the show who are alive but died long ago in the comics and vice versa. There's people in the show who were never in the comics at all and vice versa. Some characters act completely differently... and it's a good thing.

The author of the comics is directly involved in the writing of the show, and as such, all the changes are expertly done and super well written. It's great because the show can still keep you on your toes even if you've read the comics.
