Take a step back for a moment and use algebra.

If we call the second number n, then we know that the average of m and n is A. In other words, (m + n)/2 = A... that is the definition of an average, since there are only two numbers.

If (m + n)/2 = A, then (m + n) = 2A. Since you want to find n, all you have to do is subtract out m.

m + n = 2A -----> n = 2A - m

Does that make sense?

I personally don't like math too much but I did tutor people for algebra back in 9th grade so I have a bit of experience with that, and I've taken math up to college-level calculus, so... If you need any help, just hit me up. ^^

Yeah, it was for The Revenant. And I haven't seen it either. I think the only nominated best picture movie I've seen is Mad Max: Fury Road.
