I wish I had been taught how to reference/make bibliographies BEFORE I went to University. I'd never done it before and it's still really confusing :(

Luckily in this degree at this level there aren't very many essays, and even then they don't require loads of references.

^ For some reason when I was in junior high we had to do it all the time. Probably because I was in this magnet program and they were anal about everything. Truth be told, though, it's a skill I haven't really used in a long time. In high school we wrote pretty much all our papers by hand anyway, and we just generally never used computers. Here at college they barely even ask for outside sources in papers... so yeah, I pretty much haven't had to do it more than a handful of times in the past five years.

There's actually several websites out there that are meant to help with that kind of stuff. It's not too hard once you get it. And it's unlikely you'll need to use it that often, anyhow.

^^ Most of my research in school before Uni was mindless internet searching, with no notice taken of the author, credibility of the source or anything  I think my Uni has a reference generator, though I haven't used it very much - been typing them out by hand, mostly.

...am I the only one who never understood the issue with this? I mean, if somebody asks me to not use certain language around them or their kids I respect that, but personally I don't understand it. They're gonna pick it up eventually and it just feels like sheltering them and even then... what's the worst that could happen? Maybe we should be teaching them about it firsthand and telling them when it's not okay to use or something. I dunno, I feel like I'm missing something important here. :/

^The way I see it, kids probably won't know that it's not OK to say certain words around certain people, or forget. I called someone a female dog when I was 6 or 7 in front of a teacher and got into all kinds of s word for it

LOL wow okay maybe that's embarrassing, but to be fair that's pretty harmless and makes for a pretty funny story when you're older. :P

I've probably made more than a hundred or so citations in the past eight years. Probably closer to two hundred. Some of the papers that I've written have had around 10-15 citations, so it's not unreasonable of an estimate.

And for what it's worth, I haven't written an essay by hand since middle school. :P
