Well, I mean, richness is all relative in the end anyway. It's actually a pretty interesting topic that we are covering right now in my sociology course. But we tend to compare ourselves to those around us and those we perceive as 'peers' or equals. You're unlikely to hear an American complain about not being as rich as Julius Caesar for the same reason that saying 'well, you have it better than x oppressed group in Africa' doesn't tend to make anyone feel any better. They're worlds away and therefore comparing them doesn't seem relevant to the topic.

I was the one single-parent poor kid in a neighborhood full of middle-class people so I felt very limited and awkward growing up. If I'd grown up in a place like where Jack lives (where the people are even better off) I might not have even made it through high school. However, on the other side of the coin, if I had had the same parents/situation/income and was living in, say, the Bronx, I probably would've felt better off or equivalent to most people.

So yeah, it all depends. No use in hating someone else for that. It's just how things are.

I still win so I mean... doesn't that make me the richest person in all human history anyway?

Yeah, I get how you feel. I never really had problems like that because I never had those things, lol.

Well, except grades. TBH, I pretty much have to get A's and B's consistently, or else I'll get kicked out of the Honors Program... and if that happens, I've lost thousands of dollars in scholarships. So that actually is a pretty big deal to me. I need to be able to have enough money to make it through college or things are gonna get extremely complicated.

I get that, but college itself is a luxury to people like me. Then again, almost anything that isn't ramen noodles or peanut butter is a luxury to me.
