And I have always wanted to learn Swahili, also im sure we are all familiar with Dora the explorer, Dora has Spanish in her show and she helps the tots learn some Spanish, well thats exactly what the catch phrases are for to teach kids a bit of fun African language, and I LOVE IT! and for those who are slow learners like me, it helps to repeat the phrase in there heads so they learn it that way, you cant learn a language by just hearing it once, it takes repetition. :zukazama: :bunga:

Agree. Using context clues is a natural way of learning, but kids kind of stop doing it by the time they get to me. I have to reteach them how to do something that they start off doing instinctually.

My 7 year old cousin had no trouble picking up what Bunga's and Kion's catchphrases meant. I don't know if he caught the others, but he caught on to those two with ease.

I picked up "Twende, kiboko" because of Animal Kingdom. The safari drivers shout "Twende! Let's go!" as you pull off. And they have a sign by the hippos that says "Kiboko" with a picture of a hippo.

I am not at all bothered by The Lion Guard-isums. As long as they are not used excessively. Bunga is the only one that runs the risk of using his too much. perhaps that is why he has two catchphrases.

I personally love the Swahili phrases and catchphrases. The only thing that would bug me is overuse of certain phrases. I don't want it turning into a Naruto Dattebayo thing :/

The biggest appeal of TLK for me as a kid was learning all the Swahili, Zulu and other Sub-Saharan languages. To this day I still love learning the lyrics to some of Lebo M's songs and being able to sing along. I'm delighted to see that TLG are incorporating the culture. It's a huge homage to what made TLK so unique - it's African heritage.

And what's so bad about teaching kids new languages? Any show that aims to be educational in a fun way is worth the commendation in my book. It's no easy task to make it fun, but TLG are doing it.
