Thani owns a cat now!

Last week Thani and I went to the SPCA (the Dutch version of it, where you can adopt a pet from a shelter)
We went there for a cat that had a sweet personality, likes to cuddle and needed a home.
We were taken to several catteries, and the shelter woman told me about all of them. In the last cattery, there was a group of adult female cats that were taken from the Animal Protection Department. They were part of a group of 40 cats that were kept in a little house. I don't have to explain what traumas that cats had to cope with.

Thani and I immediately fell in love with a brown tabby with beautiful green eyes. We took her home instantly. The first few days she was very shy, but now she is growing confident and Thani is really sweet and caring towards her. He bought some toys, cat snacks and even a tunnel that makes cracky noises, to play in.

Tomorrow I am going to Thani, and I'll post some pics of this new beautiful cat called Fleurtje (a Dutch name that means "flower" in French)

Fleur (the cat) sure deserves a nice home indeed. I am very glad that she became a member of my household. As every cat-owner does know: You don't own cats, they own you! But I am very glad she grows more confident every day. It sure is nice to have a furry family member for hopefully the next 15/20 years to come. Let's hope she lives a long happy life from now on. No more competition for food and space anymore.
The day TG and I visited the SPCA shelter, Fleur lay in a basket with a towel in it, and she wasn't shy at all. I let her take a sniff at my hand, before I petted her, and the employee from the Shelter even said it is pretty unusual that a cat eats when strangers are in the cattery rooms. Yet Fleur did so, apparently feeling most comfortable. Yet when she got into a little hide-away under a scratch-pole, another cat wanted to be in there too. But Fleur used to be a dominant alpha cat. Once the other cat entered her precious hide-away she forced her out immediatly by striking a few blows at it. Eventually on the trip home by public transport bus, she remained very calm. Not even one meow was heard. These days she even comes to visit me on my bed sometime during the nights. Fleur occassionally dares to walk over my computer-desk when I am sitting behind my computer. And most fun thing is: She goes playing every night whilst I lay down to sleep. Who said adult cats don't play eh?

But seeing her play like that gives me a feeling that says: It's ok, she feels at home here. Photo's will follow soon, just as TG said.

I'm SO happy for you sweetheart!
And I am sure that Fleurtje will like me as well when I return to your place tomorrow.

Aww... A new pet always lightens one's spirits. I am so happy for you two, she sounds like a beauty!
