It's a great theory.

Still, I made up one where Kion has a fight with Simba and runs away, only to have the guilt eat him up alive, because he, as the lion guard, should defend his lands. He comes around later on.

I came up with a similar theory where the guard left to go take on a big problem outside of the Pridelands, something that would affect the Pridelands were it not prevented. I'm not sure what, maybe hyenas? Funny to see others coming up with similar theories. Great minds think alike.
