To those that "hate" TLG, and what i think about it

Postby KionofTheLionGuard » December 1st, 2015, 10:21 pm

So i have seen a lot of hate for The Lion Guard, but at the same time i see some positives for it too. However, i want to address the part of the fandom that expect far too much of the modern Disney.

Guys, i understand why you wanted a true TLK sequel. One that doesn’t have plot holes galore, shows life in the Pridelands after the outlanders joined, Kiara and Kovu’s children, or whatever. But you must also understand that the Disney of today isn’t the same Disney as before. There are new animators, and new managers, and the team that once created the magic we saw back in 1994 in theaters with The Lion King aren’t there anymore. It’s all new people, new faces, and they can’t recreate the same kind of originality the first movie had, like the old team could have achieved. Rob Minkoff, Don Hahn, and Roger Allers most likely work for someone else now. A company such as Dreamworks or whoever they now work for.

Also, to those who think that sending hate mail, or complaints to Disney need to realize that, Disney doesn’t care. You couldn’t pay them enough to even try and care about what you guys think or feel, or want them to change. Simply put, they will not listen to you.

Now to conclude, i’m not saying it’s a sin to hate on something you don’t like. Nor do i think that it’s a crime to vent out some frustrations every now and then, but let me be honest with you, it really could have been so much worse than what we got. It could have been a “GO Diego, GO!” clone, or a Dora the Explorer copy for all we knew. I mean, this show was aimed mostly for 2-7 year olds, but it’s still nice that they actually cared enough not to make it that way in the first place.

And one more thing, at least we actually got more TLK content regardless. Maybe that’s just me being grateful for anything i get no matter what it is, but at any point in time, they could have just stopped making TLK stuff and stopped selling the merchandise and movies altogether. But, i’m glad they didn’t. And for those of you that think "Oh this show is still SUUUUUPER dumbed down! It's the end of my childhood as i know it!", yeah the other TLK movies were pretty dark in a deeper meaning and whatnot, but when you say that they shouldn't have dumbed it down at all for the kids, let me remind you; today's society is MUCH more "sensitive" to dark themes appearing in kids movies than before. Disney would (somehow) be crucified nowadays for trying something like that because apparently, "It's a cartoon, so it's gotta be kid-friendly no matter what". Regardless, this is just my opinion on the matter.

Rant over, just wanted to get this off my chest. I do not hate The Lion Guard. Actually, i thought it was better than i thought it would be myself.

I agree with all of this. As a person who has been in a number of different fandoms, the lion guard is far less worse that the stuff that's happen to some franchises I've seen.

Another thing you have to kinda keep in mind is that it's not really Disney's fault that they have to keep all their media extremely clean cut. It's a side effect of having made family friendly content for so many years that the random public has kind have come to expect it, I mean, people thought they saw a bad word in a random cloud in one of their movies, and even though it was an urban legend, Disney altered the cloud anyway. They have to be very careful what they put out these days, as the soccer moms are always on alert. >.<

The whole "sex" in the cloud thing was never in that movie to begin with. It was supposed to spell "SFX", but as you said, people got all up in arms about it cause their minds are always in the gutter.

 and what about someone like me who is a Frozen hater or not a Star Wars fan that is jealous they they get all the spot light in the entire world, and TLK is not everywhere we look in stores like Star wars or Frozen, my battle has been trying to support TLK/G to make a difference in helping increase its popularity and by trying to contact Disney the best I can, because the lot of us TLK fans what more out of it? I guess Im just so jealous of Frozen beating TLK as well as star wars, I biggest wish is TLk to meet that popularity, then my life would be complete. Its just not fare! why doesn't Disney ever have something where they would actually listen to fans?

You have to realize that certain people have different personalities. Most have the "IDGAF what you and everyone else thinks of this or that", then you got the people that actually want the feedback and the responses to improve upon. It's very, very easy to lie and trick others into thinking you care, but not really. Unfortunately, that's how it goes. I too, want TLK's fandom to have a voice, but with the way some of these people are treating it, i don't think they'd want to listen to all that bickering, and fighting, and ranting, and complaining all together.

so your saying is the best way to give our TLK world it best chance for TLG to succeed is to accept it and embrace for what it is?

LOL so true dude

anyway, I agree with you OP.
it's completely fine to not like TLG, and I certainly wouldn't expect all the longtime TLK fans to love it (considering our all-consuming desire for plot continuity and our attention to detail and the fact that the vast majority of us are no longer within TLG's target age group).

but I REALLY! don't see the sense in getting so angry about it and outright hating TLG. honestly, anyone who is complaining so much really needs to take a step back and accept that media made for a TV channel aimed at children under the age of 8 does not need to cater to us. and yet, with TLG:RotR, we actually do have something that can really be enjoyable and entertaining for all age groups. as you said, it could have been much more 'dumbed down.' but IMO it still manages to keep the spirit of TLK intact.

reiterating what you said, i do think it's totally fine to have complaints about it, to vent a little, etc. I do think there are issues with TLG, and I think many of those issues still remain relevant when considered in the context of analyzing a show aimed at preschoolers.

but overall RotR is fun, cute, sweet, overall pretty well-executed if you ask me.
i urge those who are mad about it to maybe stop for a sec and think about how excited you might be about TLG if you were still as young as you were around the time the original TLK films came out, or when you were in the Disney Junior target age group. ever since TLG was announced i've tried to stay in touch with that feeling, and it's really done wonders for my enthusiasm about the show.

+1 to everyone posts! 8-)

As a response to all plot continuation problems from SP, I think people forget that this is a 'SPIN OFF',rather than a SEQUEL. Naturally the focus on those things just wasn't supposed to be there. It's all about Kion and his little adventures.

All people need to do is to lower their expectations, understand that its made for kids and they can enjoy the show again, like they do in TLK.

I already posted this on my Tumblr. Though, i think you should just leave this kind of thing alone. Especially since "haters" wouldn't give a damn regardless, given this is the Internet. I was merely expressing my opinion.

I do appreciate you wanting to spread my word however, especially with my permission first. But as i said, i think it'll all be ok.
