I think Simbas overprotectiveness has kept Kiara back a lot. She would have learned more about the world and become more independent if Simba didn’t smother her and tried to keep her under tight control all the time.

I love Kiara myself. I remember when I first saw the sequel I immediately loved her, so much that I liked the sequel better. Like Simba, she was a character I grew up with. I know some people have this hate towards Kiara and I see why, but Kiara will always have a special place in my heart. Kiara reminds me a bit of myself when I was growing up. My dad would get overprotective of me and I wasn't exactly like other girls my age. I usually would hang around with the guys, some other girls that were "odd" like me or be by myself.

I still love Kiara all the same. ^^

Kiara isn't one of my absolute favourite characters, in SP my favourite character is actually Kovu. However, I don't mind her as she has some very good points about her. One that stands out personally for me is that she basically (along with Kovu) brings the two waring Prides together.

It wasn't Simba, that scene really does annoy me when at the end Mufasa's Spirit says: ''Well done my son, we are one.''
..Simba doesn't even do anything. Between Zira and he, both of them managed to divide the pride so the outlanders and pridelanders were at war.
It was Kiara and Kovu who brought them together.

I think Kiara has been very sheltered all of her life, but meeting Kovu lets her see other lions than the pride she grew up in.
On the topic of Kiara, I have often wondered the age difference between her and Kovu. Now, I am probably getting WAY too over my head in this, but this is the conundrum:

If Kovu was the last born before Scar died, he is older than Kiara. And since lionesses are pregnant for about three (human) months, he is at least three months older than her. Okay, no biggy. But now the question is... what about Kopa?

Many fans speculate Kopa was killed by Zira and that's why she was exiled and hated by Simba. I like this explanation, as it fits with Who Is the Cub at the End of The Lion King, however, Nala would be pregnant three months. Therefore Kovu is now SIX months older than Kiara, IF she was from the same litter as Kopa. But she was never in any of Kopa's books (Obviously the guys who wrote the Kopa books didn't plan on Kiara), and Kopa, if we go by the fan theory--killed by Zira--looked like a young lion cub in all of the books, same age as cub Simba, which might have been maybe... six or more months? I'm no lion biology expert, so it's a rough guess.
Still on the possibility that Kopa came before Kiara, now Kovu (who would be at least three months older than Kopa) would then be a year or so older than Kiara, right? Didn't look that way when the cubs first met.

Kovu---Kopa--------(Kopa killed)---Kiara = more than a year difference between Kovu and Kiara (- is one month)

A second possibility is that Kiara was in Kopa's life as a little sister, just not invented before the Kopa books. Then baby Kopa was shown at end of TLK, and after that (same timeline) Kiara was also shown at the ceremony. This would work, since lions usually have more than one cub anyways, and puts Kovu three or four months older than Kiara, which I would buy more than my first year-or-more-age-difference theory. However, Kopa would be out of the picture before Kiara and Kovu first met, since by then Zira was an exile.

Kovu---Kopa and Kiara (Kopa killed in Kiara's lifetime) = only three/four months between Kovu and Kiara

Of course, the last possibility is that Kopa is not canon and never existed. I don't like this, as I personally like Kopa and don't want to shun him so hastily, but this is obviously what TLK2 wants us to believe. That would make Kovu three or four months older than Kiara--this is the best theory for the age difference, but it also deletes Kopa.

Kovu---Kiara = only three/four months between Kovu and Kiara

I know I am a nerd to have thought of all this, and I hope I didn't confuse anyone. Really, sorry about that. But if you want to, please respond--I would love to hear your takes on the Kiara/Kovu age difference case.

*Also, this is strictly going by the fan theory that Zira killed Kopa (except for the third possibility)
