Here's part one(yes, it's short but don't expect that from now on because they will get long)
Part one: The pawnbringers
Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, security office, 7:35 p.m
“All right, I’m heading home now, see you tomorrow” said one of the researchers for the gemstone exhibit as she clocked out.
“You’ve been pushing yourself way too hard, you shouldn’t stay so late all the time” said the guard stationed at the office. He looked up from his computer as he spoke to her.
“I know, I promise as soon as the tourist season settles down I’ll take it easier”
“I’ll hold you to it. See you tomorrow Nikki” said the guard. He waved her out of the office and turned back to his computer when she left the office and closed the heavy wooden door.
One of the main reasons why the guard had been hired was because of his very good perception and knack for noticing even the smallest of details. But as he went back to looking at his monitors he failed to notice the shadow under the door as something walked by.
All of a sudden there was a huge “boom!” sound when something hit the door twice in rapid succession. The guard sprang up out of his chair and took his gun out and pointed it in the direction of the door. When he got close enough he quickly yanked the door open and using the skills he had when he was a S.W.A.T officer, he checked every direction, never lowering his weapon. “Hmm…right…” said the guard as he took out his radio.
He managed to get the radio to hear ear when from almost out of nowhere a large cat jumped him and brought him to the floor; and began to maul him. The guard was so taken aback that he couldn’t fight back, and in under a minute the cat had killed him.
Nikki was walking through the Egypt exhibit on her way to the exit when she saw a piece of an exhibit had fallen to the ground. She picked it up and saw she was holding a fossil, but it was hard for her to make it out because it was wrapped in a cloth When she picked it up she could swear that it emitted a pink glow, but she disregarded it. She took the fossil and put it in her purse where it would be safer to transport to the security office where they could keep it safe before it got placed back where it belonged.
Five minutes later in the main concourse of the museum Nikki was heading for the security office. Slowly all the lights in the museum turned off leaving everything in the darkness save for a few rays of light that got through the cracks in the windows. As she looked around her eyes settled on a small pair of yellow eyes that were only a few feet away from her and were staring her down.
Nikki started to shake as she inched away from the eyes. The eyes on the creature lowered before it lunged out of the opaque darkness at her. Nikki bolted and ran for her life through the museum, but the creature was quicker than her and was catching up quickly. Nikki saw the gemstone exhibit and ducked in there trying to find a hiding place.
The creature rounded the corner and as it chased after Nikki it bumped into some of the exhibits, sending rare and near-priceless stones crashing to the ground. Nikki tripped and found herself backed into a wall; the creature pounced and landed just inched from her and bared it’s fangs while growling, with murder in its eyes.
“Well well, what have we here?” a medium-height woman wearing a dress and high-heels casually walked among the destroyed exhibits, stopping at the creature and gave it a pat on the head which keeping her eyes on Nikki. Nikki tried to speak, but she was dumbstruck by the sudden turn of events and when she tried to speak her words got garbled and became unintelligible.
The woman sighed and looked at Nikki “Look, I know that you must be surprised about all this but do try to pay attention here, I don’t want to have to spill any more blood here because that would just be one more thing I have to clean up” the woman said in a patronizing tone.
Nikki finally got her composure back and stared down the woman and upon closer inspection her cat. “What the hell is going on here??” she asked.
“That’s what I should be asking you. I was told that all I had to take care of were a few security guards and that would be it, not anyone else, so what are you doing here?” asked the woman who was clearly getting impatient.
“I work here, I was just staying late. Did you kill all the guards?” Nikki asked as she thought about the guard who she had just talked to. “Are you a robber or something? And what is with that cat?”
“Nice try with stalling for time but I want to leave before the cops show. But to answer you yes I killed the guards and you’re next” said the woman. Her cat lunged at her but was caught in mid-air by an even larger cat. The two cats started wresting each other in mortal combat and they were damaging even more of the exhibits as they fought.
Both the woman and Nikki watched as the larger cat ripped the woman’s cat’s throat out in a bloody mess. Nikki saw the room getting dimmer and saw it starting to spin as she slowly slipped into unconsciousness; her mind having taken in too much to comprehend.
