The line in The Big Bang Theory's theme song which states "the autotrophs began to drool" seems quite peculiar to me. Autotrophs employ chemosynthetic pathways as a means of self-nourishment, which thus means that they lack the requisite anatomical morphology (and by extension, the need) to salivate. Unless of course this was a reference to our common unicellular eukaryotic ancestor, and the subsequent genetic divergence which eventually gave rise to the various kingdoms and clades that we know today. However, given the protracted duration of such evolutionary processes, this seems unlikely.
And I've probably spent far too much time as it is analyzing the lyrics of a sitcom's theme song, so I'll just cap my rant off here.
