Love at First Sight: Melody & Derek (kitkat39 & NKL!)

I leaned my head toward his thumb, feeling hope that maybe he would remember me. I looked at him, seeing for the first time how blue his eyes were, just like the ocean around us. "Derek...." I whispered, reaching up to place my hand on his cheek, then hesitated, worried that Morgan would come out and see us like this. "And I'll do whatever it takes to make sure I get my happy ending. You, nor any other mermaid, are going to ruin this for me." She had said, and I had felt a twinge of anger remembering it again.

(This + the Frozen cast leaving OUAT last night is really killing me. )

I noticed her lean into my hand, and I quickly moved it away. I didn't want Morgan to get the wrong idea about me and Melody. But when she said my name, it sounded so familiar, and I felt something that I had never felt before, and couldn't describe. "What is it?" I asked her.

I felt a pain of loss when Derek moved his hand away, then I took a deep breath and said, "To tell you the truth, I don't really know...." I looked at him, and gave him a sad smile. 'He is so handsome...' I thought to myself as I absently brushed a strand of his hair from his forehead.

I let her push the strand of hair out of the way, mainly because her touch sent shivers throughout me. What was with that? I'm in love with Morgan, not this girl. Or am I? Once again, the temptation to kiss her came back, but I pushed it away. I didn't want there to be complications in my love life. Not now. But, what I was feeling was stronger than anything I had ever felt before. Was it actually meant to be, for me to be with her?

I saw the confusion and questioning through his eyes, and I thought, 'Maybe he is starting to remember me.' I laid my hand on his cheek, feeling his warmth pulse through it. I gave him a smile I had always given him when he knew me, hoping he would remember.

That tingling feeling grew stronger as her hand rested on my cheek, and she smiled. What was so special about that smile? I felt like I should know it like the back of my hand, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Maybe she was right. Maybe I did know her before. "Can I ask you something?" I asked. Without waiting for an answer, I continued, "I know this may sound crazy, but...do you love me?"

I took a deep breath, then slowly i answered, "Yes, I do, Derek....."

I felt my hear begin to race. I knew, deep down, that this couldn't be happening. But I couldn't stop it. "And...did I ever love you?" I asked, a little nervous. I didn't know what I wanted the answer to be, either, which made it worse.

"I don't really know, but I believe that you did....and maybe, still do." I said, as I looked into his eyes, letting him see my love for him.

I looked down at her, my heart racing. Her ocean blue eyes sparkled brightly, and I realized that maybe she was right. Maybe I do love her. Wanting to find out, I bent down, wanting to kiss her, and not even caring what anyone else said. But just before I was able to, I heard Morgan call, "Derek! Your mom needs you down in the reception room!" I sighed, my lips being only a short area away from hers. But now it was ruined.

"Okay! I'll be down right away!" I called. Turning back to Melody, I said, "I'm sorry. I have to go. I'll see you later." I turned around and swam out of the room, not helping but wonder if it was Morgan's fault for all of this.
