I continued cleaning the barnacles, but I must have been distracted by my thoughts about Melody, because when Morgan tapped my shoulder, I flinched.
"Derek, are you sure you're okay?" she asked.
"Yes. I told you, I just didn't get enough sleep," I answered.
"No, that's not it. Yes, you look tired, but there's something more. If you weren't distracted, you wouldn't have been scraping the rock," she said. I looked down to see marks in the rock, about two inches from the barnacle.
"Oops," I said, embarrassed. Morgan laughed.
"It's okay. But will you tell me what's on your mind? I promise I won't tell," she said.
"Okay. Well, there's this girl. We met about a year ago, and we bumped into each other again yesterday. I visited her last night, and we spent the whole night together. I haven't been able to get her out of my mind, no matter how hard I try," I explained.
"Then go visit her," Morgan said. I looked at her, surprised.
"Are you sure?" He asked, and she nodded.
"I'll cover for you. Don't worry. You go enjoy yourself," Morgan said.
"Thanks, Morgan! I owe you!" I said, then swam away. I was about halfway to Melody's castle when I heard someone humming. I would recognize that voice anywhere now. "Melody?" I called.
