@The Spirit of Life; I'm terribly sorry to hear that. Cancer is a very scary thing.

I'm feeling a tad anxious, and very hungry. Time to get out of bed and do that breakfast thing I suppose.

Very sorry to hear that. :( I lost my grandmother through cancer. I am here as well with Flip if you wanna talk. :)

Thank you all so much. Your offers of support and kind words mean a lot to me. And @Flip and @SimbasMate, I'm so sorry to hear that people you loved had to go through this too.

Sadly, this isn’t my first experience with cancer in my family. It has also taken the lives of 3/4 of my grandparents, and threatened my mother’s (although she fought it off and I’m so happy to say that she has been cancer-free for over 10 years now). As for my uncle, he’s a tough guy. I know he’s going to give it everything he’s got, and of course my whole family is going to be right there with him every step of the way.

I hope I live to see the day where the world has been rid of this horrible disease.

Quoted for truth.

I haven't experienced anyone go through cancer, but I worry that one day my gf might get it if she doesn't stop smoking. =/ It's terrifying enough to even think that one day it might happen, so I can't imagine how terrible is to actually experience someone you love going through it.

I hope your uncle makes it through.

^ Thank you, Julie :)

It definitely is a scary and horrible thing to watch someone you love and care about go through, and I sure hope you never have to experience what I've seen, whether it’s through your girlfriend or anyone else in your life. I wouldn’t wish cancer on anybody.

On that note, and in keeping with the theme of the thread, I'm feeling as though I should wish everyone on MLK and the people in their lives much health and happiness.

^ Right back at you TSOL - and to everyone else :)

I aqree that it is very distressing to see someone you love go through - I've had three cancer episodes throughout my life. Both grandparents on my Dad's side died from Lymphoma and lung cancer. They did get to lead full lives luckily, since my Granda was 92 and my Gran nearly 80.

My friend Catherine, though, the same can't be said for her. She died of Leukemia last September when she was 17. I find it so hard to grasp as a concept, since the last time I saw her she was as healthy looking as she had ever been. When we found out we were told we weren't allowed to see her since she was only allowed immediate family in with her (due to the nature of leukemia, if one of us had so much as coughed onto our hand before entering the room it could have given her a fully blown infection that her body wouldn't have been able to fight off) I heard from her mum later on that by the time she died, all of her hair had fallen out and she was completely paralysed down one side of her body - sometimes I wonder what would have been if she had survived. She wouldn't have been able to go to Cambridge (an ambition of hers for just about the entire time I knew her) or ride horses ever again (she had been riding for more than a decade), and at times I wonder if never seeing her again had been a small mercy.
In any case, it doesn't stop me from missing her everyday.

I wish you and your uncle and your family all the best  like you said about your Mum, there are many people who do make full recoveries, more these days than ever before I think. If you ever need to bounce a rant off someone, I always look at my PMs :)

^ Oh jeez, I’m so sorry, Niña :( To lose anybody to cancer is dreadful, but when it’s somebody as young as your friend … that’s just heartbreaking. This may sound cheesy, but I honestly believe that the people we love that are no longer with us are never truly gone – not as long as we remember them, talk about them, and never let their memories fade.

Thank you (and everyone else) so much the support, I really do appreciate it and it means a lot to me  This is what I love about MLK – it feels like one big e-family.
