Online Merchant Taxes

Just wondering what other people think; should sites such as Amazon or Ebay charge customers sales tax? If so what effect will it have on the online market place?

What effect do you think that has had on online sales because of it? What effect would it have if all of the United States had to pay sales tax. Who would get that sales tax the state you buy from, or the state you reside in?
