Once upon a time, there was a great dragon named Asferylth, who soared angrily through the skies, terrorizing the people of the land. Asferylth had been known for kindness and tolerance towards the lesser mortals, like mankind, and so, this behavior puzzled the gentry greatly. Everyone lived in absolute fear of being cooked alive by the searing flames of Asferylth. Soon, the humans decided the dragon needed to be dealt with by any means necessary and they took up arms. A great war general led the makeshift soldiers to battle, and, taking mount, they moved out, and many feared, into the jaws of certain death. The general's bravado was unsurpassed, as was his narcissism. They approached the dragon as it rested atop a rock, the general riding nearer than the others dared.
"Asferylth," said he, "cease this meaningless reign of terror, or I shall be forced to execute you."
The dragon reared her head and glared down at the little human, smoke rolling from her nostrils, and spake unto him, "Pathetic mortal, darest thou speak to me so? With such arrogance unbefitting one of your meager stature, no less. Thinkest thou that you are my better? Perhaps you know not with whom you are dealing. I am Asferylth, ruler of this land, and the most powerful, and immortal, creature in existence. You are nothing to my might. Return from whence you came, lest you come to regret it."
But the general would not listen. He continued threatening the beautiful beast, and soon, he rode in, sword drawn, determined to strike her down.
"You have been warned human. Meddle not in affairs above your understanding, lest you be ferried too soon to the afterlife."
And then the sword struck scales, horses fled, and hot flames engulfed the general. His army dispersed, and none learned of the dragon's reasons for the reign of terror she had subjected them to. After that day, Asferylth ceased her random attacks, and disappeared into the mountains, never to be seen by man again.
