Forgive me if this sounds stupid, but... why on Earth does a nine year old need to know how to shoot a gun?

^ They don't. But around here, younger kids do, even.

Well I sincerely hope that those kids who do know how to shoot a weapon know when and when not to use one. I'm all for bearing arms, but I'm not so sure that it is a good idea for such young kids to have something like that in their hands.
