Chapter 10; Deja Vú, A Lioness' Life:
Whilst walking back to Pride Rock, Taka didn't say much, but he sure looked impressed by this lioness. But he couldn't help asking her some pretty personal questions.. "You said you lived on scraps for a while.. How long were you in the barren lands?" Taka asked. Zira looked at him, and at first she seemed tensed because of the direct question of the lion. But after a brief pause, and having sighed deeply, she told him all she remembered. About her sisters, and their hardships under a brutal regime of rogues. She also stated that she never wanted to be considered as a rogue herself ever again, not herself, nor her cubs, and all whom she holds close to her heart. Finally she shyfully asked Taka to reveal his own name to her.
"Just call me Scar" Taka replied. Allthough in her mind his name didn't sound native to the lands, she prolly accepted it without any further hestitation. "Scar...." she repeated for herself. As time seemed to flew by, the pair of lions approached Pride Rock. Mufasa and the lionesses were dozing on the rocks, it was clear that the hunting party had set out for a kill once again. Suddenly some of the lionesses stirred to the arrival of a strange scent in the air. Some of the lionesses seemed to mumble as Scar and Zira passed by, some others reacted in anger of the unknown mock-attacking Zira until Mufasa rose to his feet.
The brown maned lion already was an impressive sight to behold, even while both males were still young. Appearing next to Mufasa was Uru. The former queen took a good glance at the new arrival, before she whispered something in Mufasa's ear. Scar immediatly began to show suspicion towards his brother, thinking of having a plot arranged against himself, and Zira alike.
But before Scar could speak up, Uru began talking to them: "You seemed to have brought us a new addition to our hunting party, aren't you son?"
Whilst Mufasa remained silent with a stern look on his face, it was Uru who noticed the possibilities of an additional force within the pride's survival abillities. As Uru stepped forward to the stranger, she continued to talk into Zira personally, trying to see what she had in front of her.
"Forgive us for the rude hello on behalf of the entire pride, but we aren't used to strangers within our midst." Whilst Zira felt a bit uneasy, with this sudden seemingly friendly attention, she couldn't figure out the reasoning of the old queen, as Scar decided to speak up on her behalf. "Her name is Zira. She had come a long way from accross the barren lands to the west of our kingdom, and her past hasn't been easy on her to say the least. But according to pride's law, every lioness able of adding up to the survivalbility to the pride, should be given a fair chance to prove herself worthy." Mufasa quickly exchanged a brief glance with their mother, and finally he too started talking.
"Taka's right!" But before he could continue, he immediatly was interrupted by a confused Zira. "Taka?! They'd given you a name that means nothing but waste and unwanted garbage??" continuing: "You told me your name is Scar.. I don't know what to believe anymore... But fact is, you've lied to me! Why??" Taka paused looking down to the ground.. "Mother, brother.. Because I fought unjust presence within our territory, I became scarred accross my left eye. I wish to be known as Scar from now on.." Uru seemed to be lost in thoughts for a while, but suddenly sprang to life again confirming her youngest son's wish. "If that's what you wish for, I won't deny you the honorable name. But to me you always remain to be my own innocent Taka." And she nudged her youngest son. "As for you Zira, you'll rest for now, and the pride will provide the neccesary food to get you back to full health again. But if you want to stay, you must prove yourself a good hunter. But first and foremost I need to ask you one more question: Do you want to stay with us? If not, you're free to leave now." Uru concluded. "Personally I too hope you'll be staying with the pride" Mufasa said in a persuasive tone..
"Zira.. Whatever happens, I'll keep an eye out for your needs. If you wish to talk, you'd find me at the back of Pride Rock." Scar assured her. And so, a new lioness was welcomed amongst the members of the fledgling pride.. A few weeks had passed, and slowly but surely Zira visibly became healhier, and gained some weight in the process. Whilst hunting alone, she proved herself a reliable huntress, yet her body didn't feel as comfortable, as when she used to hunt with her own sisters. Zira constantly felt the pressure of trying hard to prove herself to the other lionesses over time. As she had her trials to go through, she often looked back at Scar's dissappearance into the grasslands around them.
As time rolled by, years had passed, and the monsoon came once again. The brothers tried hard to impress the lionesses, wanting to conceive cubs.
But Zira didn't want to have anything to do with it. Allthough she was in heat, she'd ran off into the Pride Lands to ponder over her life, and as what she thought about the lives lost.. And once again she was approached by a male lion. A wandering rogue who set his eye on conceiving cubs for himself. The poor lioness was slammed to the ground, being pummeled around. She could hardly fend off the agressor. But she managed to strike a blow to the rogue lion, which had mortally wounded him. As the lion lay dying breathing his last breath, she decided to put an end to it, for what he had done to her.. She took shelter under an accasia-tree. She couldn't go back now, they would've accuse her of brutal murder while it was self-defence in her own opinion.. Over time, she had cleaned herself, and she decided to continue onwards to Pride Rock, and headed straight for the back of the rock-formation to find Scar.
"So far, Scar has been treating me most kindly of all lions I'd ever encountered..." She thought to herself. As she came into the cave at the backside of Pride Rock, she did found Scar sulking in his lonelyness. To Zira's surprise there where no other lionesses around, even though it was the time of the year again.. "Care for some company Scar?" Zira asked. Scar remained silent for a while, but in the end he finally answered her question with a sound yes. As Zira had known Scar most of the pride members, she finally gave in to his swooning. And so the night passed away..
