Kahiwa was born into a small pride of lions. She was very quiet and queer as a cub, and seemed to never come out of her shell. When she was a adult, she left the pride like most cubs did, and found a young lion named Mgumu, and he agreed to let her into his pride. Hastily, the young lioness accepted the offer. What she didn't know, was that she made a mistake. Mgumu's father bethroed the two, despite the complains of the lioness. Mgumu forced her to mate with him, and soon, she gave birth to Kula and Chumvi. During the night she gave birth, she ran away to the Pride Lands, and asked King Mufasa if he'd let her into the pride. Mufasa felt pity on her, and let her in.

When Scar became king, he had envy for the young lioness. He wanted her gone. In a attempt to kill some of the remaining cubs, Scar sent Shenzi after them. Hearing her children's cries, Kahiwa tried to protect her babies and the cubs. However, she was no match for the hyena, and died, giving the cubs long enough to escape. Her life vanished, forever.

Kula and Chumvi would take on the legency of their parents. Sarabi chose to raise the two cubs as her own, but when they were teens, Scar exiled the two. They later found prides of their own.
