The colonists were paying for a global war. Of course they were in it, but the seven years war had multiple theaters. It wasn't just in America, and it wasn't just about the Brits fighting the French and Indians. The colonists were part of the British empire fighting a war for the British empire.
Of course the Brits wanted the Americans to pay their taxes, but my point is that it was never about the taxes at all. It was about representation. If the king had listened to the colonists, they would have paid their dues and it's possible that the revolution wouldn't have happened.
