I think Matthew Broderick was pretty bad as Simba
I find the movie to be tonally inconsistent at times-I think the type of humor they went for, the over the top almost cartoony-type of humor, felt out of place in the serious, grand epic tone the rest of the movie had and felt that a more relaxed and deadpan type of humor would've suited the tone better. That and I felt the movie had too much comedy as it seemed like if a scene went maybe a few minutes without comedy, even if the scene wasn't that serious, it felt like it had to cut to comedy really fast. I don't know, there are some scenes that they put humor in where I felt it wasn't needed-for example, did the Mufasa's Ghost scene really need to be followed by Rafiki hitting Simba in the head and talking about how crazy the weather was? Why couldn't it just be like this: Mufasa tells Simba to save his kingdom-Rafiki convinces Simba to go back without using humor-and then they cut to Rafiki telling Timon, Pumbaa, and Nala that Simba's coming back? It also doesn't help that half the cast is made up of comic relief characters...
